“Transversality: a mathematical notion of interconnecting spaces. Or: a fashion theory intersecting the histories, legacies and memories of two or more aesthetic entities.”
Since the first announcement of their partnership in January 2020, Louis Vuitton and the National Basketball Association or NBA, has since released pieces catering to men that are not only fashion fanatics, but also fans of the game. For the Pre-Fall 2021 season, Louis Vuitton and the NBA seek inspiration from 1990s basketball mania.
According to the statement, “Men’s Artistic Director Virgil Abloh fuses trademarks of Louis Vuitton and the NBA in a transversal celebration of pop culture, fashion and sports.”In line with LV x NBA’s original capsule, this new collection reflects a professional basketball player’s three dress modes: travel, game, and press conference; all created alongside fashion designer Don Crawley.
Travel captures a player in casual wear, with their own take on relaxed-cut suits such as a blouson and trousers detailed with LV’s floral motif, and a hoodie and shorts set incorporated with LV logo, among other pieces. The game lineup, however, includes informal shirts and blousons, all embellished with graphic letters that spell “Louis Vuitton,” with each font a reference to an NBA team. For a player’s press conference ensembles, Virgil Abloh takes inspiration from the 90s, with boxy black suits and overcoats, and a leather bomber jacket as the main pieces.
One of the most looked forward to this season, Louis Vuitton will be releasing their first ever basketball, available in a 29.5” life-size version and a 5.11” smaller version, perfect for collectors and fans alike. The collection also boasts of bags with basketball net detailing and the NBA insignia. As well as a ring inspired by the NBA’s own championship rings, as well as chain necklaces with logos of both LV and NBA.
Louis Vuitton is located at Greenbelt 4 and Solaire Resort and Casino.
