A long-awaited collaboration, the capsule collection was finally unveiled yesterday with a digital fashion show that takes you on a tour of the Louvre. With Michelangelo and Daru galleries serving as the backdrop of the runway, it was quite a surprise when you hear the familiar and iconic electric beat of Daft Punk’s “Around The World” to open the show. But as the models start to walk down the runway, it all starts to make sense. Ghesquière and Fornasetti bring the age of enlightenment to modern-day with a collection that illustrates Greco-Roman artwork in ultramodern apparel and accessories.
Greek Mythology Mania
Giving off a logo-mania vibe but instead of the house’s monogram, each look is clad in faces and drawings of mythological icons that Fornasetti is known for. From art featuring faces of Greek icons to Roman architecture, familiar and archived Fornasetti characters and motifs are revealed on Petite Malles, Keepalls, Almas, Dauphines, and new portrait round bags.
For those exotic bag collectors, the collection also revealed partial and full crocodilien hobo bags in classic colors of black, nude and a personal favorite in a rich amethyst hue.
Midas Touch
Other than the divinely illustrated handbags, it wouldn’t be a Louis Vuitton line without expert contrast layering. The Roman gladiator inspiration is kept through the metallic gold and silver accents while the rest of the look takes on a contemporary turn. Tulle skirts are paired with oversized puffer jackets and sweaters, while gladiator sandals are turned into futuristic chunky boots with zipper and ribbon tie accents. Oversized leather vests are also paired with intricated embroidered mini dresses.
The Golden Age
The collaboration between Nicholas Ghesquière and Piero Fornasetti will surely add to the list of the fashion house’s top artist collections that Louis Vuitton loyals and Greek mythology enthusiasts alike will want to display front-row in their closets.
