For Magnum Philippines, it’s all about celebrating indulgence, and what better way to launch their new limited edition flavor than with a playful twist.
Held at Electric Garden, BGC last September 28, the brand welcomed guests to the coolest and most exclusive party for their newest flavor offering: the Magnum Matcha Crumble.
A playful twist
While matcha has been often associated with feelings of calm and relaxation, Magnum’s Creative Director Raymond “Mond” Gutierrez took a different path for Magnum’s launch.
“For me, matcha symbolizes kind of like zen and calm, but tonight we’re kind of turning that up, you know, we’re throwing a party,” the creative director shared. “It’s a multi-sensorial experience. We’re bringing the matcha experience through sight, sound, taste, and smell.”
True to its matcha-inspired theme, Mond also donned the brightest green he could find in his closet. “I’m just keeping it casual because tonight is a work night for me, so I need to be very comfortable and be able to move around the whole night,” he said.

The event featured an immersive and experiential evening to put a spotlight on Magnum’s latest innovation. Showcasing the environment of the rainforest, lush greenery, and natural materials, the brand brought the matcha green into every corner of the room.

Inside, a lush tropical garden thrived with life, and senses were electrified with DJ sets from Christi, Eduardo, and Baby Oliv.
At 6:00 p.m., celebrities and models, such as Patricia Henson, Nicole Cordoves, Bubbles Paraiso, and Bethany Talbot came around in their best matcha-inspired fashion, from fun coordinates to elegant dresses. Also serving their matcha looks were actress and model Max Collins in a green ruched halter top paired with a long skirt, and the multi-faceted creative Gabs Gibbs in her green oversized leather coat.

With pass-around food and matcha cocktails, the esteemed guests flaunted their ensembles in different content-creation rooms, from the observatory with projection mapping of the forest to candle-making matcha station.
“Matcha reminds me of Japan, so this [party] will transport you to Japan,” Mond reminisced with a smile, posing against the visual backdrop of Japan-themed gardens. As one of the first to taste the Magnum Matcha Crumble, he shared how unique it was: “This flavor is quite unique, because we offset that with some crumble, cookie bits, and Belgian chocolate.”
For matcha lovers
As the night went on, everyone eventually found their way around the stage next to the DJ booth for the main event. Host Nicole Andersson welcomed everyone to a sweet evening, where the crowd’s response was a burst of echoing laughter, the tingling sound of people having a good time.
To usher the audience into the exciting bright green world of matcha goodness, the Business Manager of Out of Home Ice Cream from Unilever, Mayan Evangelista, talked about the decadent Magnum. “Magnum is not just an ice cream, it’s a brand that exudes and celebrates pleasure. It creates that little luxurious moment that you can easily access.”
Furthermore, she explained that cafes, bars, and restaurants all have iterations of matcha. “We get it,” she confirmed. “It resonates so much with you. To us, at Magnum, matcha is not just a flavor—it’s a lifestyle.”
Magnum Philippines’ creative genius, Mond, then took to the floor his immense gratitude. “I’m so excited to bring Magnum back to doing events like this after a while. Tonight, we are celebrating something so unique and so cool that I truly love, which is matcha.”
The Magnum Matcha Crumble was presented on wooden boards served by waiters. Everyone got to indulge in the expertly crafted Japanese-style matcha ice cream with thick, cracking Belgian chocolate. Out for a limited time only, guests made sure to come back for more.
“I had about three bars throughout the night because it’s just that good,” Max Collins said. “I can’t get over how good the Magnum Matcha Crumble is!”
Bethany Talbot even shared how good it was: “I still remember the satisfaction of the first bite I had.”
