Check out Filipina Olympic skater, Margielyn Didal’s collaboration with New Balance that’s has a touch of her hometown
Pro-skater Margielyn Didal from Cebu, teamed up with New Balance Numeric line for a new sneaker, NB Numeric 272, that’s inspired by a Cebuano delicacy. As a reminiscent of her humble beginnings, the new shoes’ design was inspired by pusô, the Cebuano rice cake she used to sell on the streets before her the course of her life was lead into international skateboarding competitions. Pusô is a “hanging rice” delicacy, and it got its name from the similarity of its wrap to a heart symbol.
Margielyn further explained how she got the inspiration of the design, “My inspiration for my new shoes is the ‘pusô‘, it is made of rice covered with coconut leaves. You see the details on the side, when you touch it, it’s like holding the pusô,” she said. However, we must wait for the official announcement on when the NB Numeric 272 will hit our stores, but it’s coming out very soon.
This isn’t the first design Didal made for the brand. Last August, Didal, released her first signature colorway, the Margie Didal Pro NM379 ‘Pilipinas’ Sneakers, the first-ever shoes for NB Numeric Asia.
Didal’s on a roll with all the brands who continuously collaborate with her. In fact, it was just in August 2021 when the Cebuana skateboarder collaborated with international fashion brand H&M for The Skate Drop collection, with all pieces specially selected by the Pinay skateboarder herself.
