During her press conference for Star Magic, Maris Racal confirms breakup with singer-songwriter Rico Blanco after five years together
“Do you see yourself ending with Rico?” a reporter asked during Maris Racal’s press conference for Star Magic today, to which she nodded and answered, voice breaking, “Yeah.”
Emotions swept over the actress then: “Ang daming tanong about [Rico] him and I’m tired of nodding and smiling,” she continued. “I’m so scared because if I announce it, it’s real.”

The artist confirms, then: “Rico and I are over.”
The star of Can’t Buy Me Love and Marupok AF, shared that the past few weeks have been the loneliest and emptiest of her life—her way of coping was watching the Australian animated television series Bluey.
In February, she showed her support to then-boyfriend Rico at the Rivermaya Reunion Concert. Her last post with him was in March, during Rico’s birthday, to which she penned, “Happy birthday, my favorite kausap. I love you, forever nerd.”
The two also arrived at the 2023 ABS-CBN Ball together as well, where they shared with MEGA Entertainment that they had a relationship filled with “lambing bullying.”
Maris continued to share that the couple had a “universe that was so beautiful, full of love, laughter, and music. We were always on the same page, but maybe I turned to the next page, saw a new perspective in life, I had visions of who I wanted to become, how I wanted to evolve…I’m so curious about the world, and the truth is I am going through changes. What I hate about change is that it’s inevitable; ‘di mo siya matatakasan. And you have to face it and confront it.”
Maris made it clear that the separation was devoid of resentment and hostility; the emotionally vulnerable message at today’s press conference honored the five-year-relationship she shared with the singer-songwriter. It was an heartfelt and bittersweet farewell that highlighted the memories they shared—beginning with music and evolving into something deeper.
However, not all love stories have a happy ending; the actress’s questions about her “sense of self” ultimately drove the two to a separation. Maris continued to say, “Up until the very end of our relationship, it was still full of love and understanding. And Rico is one of a kind.”
