In an exclusive interview with MEGA Man, Ryan Gosling’s longtime stylist discussed the easiest way to effortlessly achieve what he calls “Kenergy”

Today, we shall further talk about his vibrant and bold wardrobe, which serves as a resounding testament to the transformative power of embracing an exciting palette in men’s fashion.
In an exclusive interview, MEGA Man had the privilege to speak with Mark Avery, the personal stylist to the Ken of our generation. Avery shared his styling secrets for effortlessly attaining the coveted Ken wardrobe, which he affectionately refers to as the “Kenergy.”

Working with Ryan
This dynamic duo has once again joined forces, proving that their collaboration is far from a one-time occurrence. The likes of The Gray Man, First Man, La La Land, and Blade Runner 2049 have given Mark and Ryan the opportunity to work on film projects. With each movie, they continue to prove their mettle as they bring their unique vision and talent to the forefront of cinema. Mark has also said that he enjoys working with the actor every time, despite the fact that they have been collaborating since 2015. “Getting to work with Ryan is always a joy, and this film was no different in that aspect,” the stylist shared.

Barbie’s dream team
The stylist mentioned that he had the privilege of collaborating with the illustrious costume designer, Jacqueline Durran. With boundless admiration, he praised Durran’s immense talent and creative prowess shown in this film. He also gave filmmaker Greta Gerwig credit for helping him pull off Ken’s colorful and distinctive clothing.
As a seasoned professional with a wealth of experience in shaping Ryan’s sartorial aesthetic, Mark’s primary responsibility lies in facilitating seamless communication, ensuring that the director’s creative concepts are effectively conveyed and supplemented with his own invaluable insights.
Mark also admitted that this was undoubtedly one of the highlights of his life. “Working on Barbie was one of the most joyful experiences of my career, and it was both fun and inspirational. The playfulness and amount of color in the costumes, as well as sets, had an undeniable effect on my mood,” Avery shared with pure delight.
Dressing the ken way
Mark revealed that the secret to achieving Ken’s irresistible charm is not adhering to a particular color or silhouette, but rather the captivating energy that radiates from within a man. He explained that finding the perfect color that truly resonates with your unique personality can be a real game-changer. It can be a vibrant red that exudes passion and strength, perhaps a serene blue that evokes tranquility and wisdom, or it can also be a sunny yellow that radiates joy and optimism. The celebrity stylist said that the key is to embrace this color wholeheartedly, allowing it to become an extension of your very being. He underscored that the essence of Kenergy is to transcend the boundaries of mere apparel and look into the depths of emotions.
According to the stylist, having a well-defined vision of your desired appearance is also essential. Avery revealed that Ryan is deeply immersed in the visual portrayal of his character, leaving no aspect untouched. In fact, the actor’s recent inclination for pink attire is not a mere marketing ploy, but rather a genuine affection for the color. As more proof that Ryan has a say in his styling choices, Mark once had him wear an “E” necklace engraved in the Barbie typeface, which was a tribute to Ryan’s partner, Eva Mendes.
When queried about his most loved ensemble thus far, the stylist expressed his utter inability to single out a favorite, for he harbors an immense fondness for Ryan’s sartorial choices throughout this ongoing press tour. As our conversation drew to a close, Mark revealed that a multitude of exciting projects lie on the horizon. However, at this very moment, what truly ignites his enthusiasm is the prospect of indulging in some much-deserved time off.
