In an exclusive interview with MEGA, Filipino designer Bessie Besana shared the journey behind Pia Wurtzbach’s secret wedding and the creation behind her wedding dress
The former Miss Universe isn’t one to shy away from displaying her love for Jeremy Jauncey, and we see that happening once again with her recent Instagram post that shocked almost everyone with it. Just last Friday, Pia Wurtzbach dropped a romantic video of her beach wedding wherein she was seen donning a gorgeous wedding dress.

While the planning of the wedding remained on the down low for six months, we approached someone who played a very important role in the secret wedding. Confidential yet exciting, New York-based Filipino designer Bessie Besana takes us back to the start of Pia Wurtzbach’s wedding journey and to the moment she finally said “I do.”
Though they are based in New York, it seemed like pieces fell into place when the former Miss Universe met up with her wedding gown designer two days after the New York Marathon on November 8, 2023. It was a total of six months of holding their excitement and keeping quiet, but they can’t deny the joy of having to be a part of her wedding—a sentimental decision for Pia Wurtzbach.
“I am grateful for Pia to be choosing me because she could have chosen anybody in the world, but she wanted to keep it close to her heart and chose a friend to design for her.”

When it comes to bridalwear, a designer is usually mindful of the little details that would ultimately represent the bride’s personality—it’s a factor the designer takes into account very seriously. And though the process may be tedious to some, Bessie sees it as an opportunity to truly become friends with brides as they continue to learn who they are.
And just like any bride, Pia definitely enjoyed her time during the fittings, making Bessie witness the bridal glow every time she was there. Bessie shared, “Pia is a great bride since she respected me by allowing me to design and conceptualize the gown for her after sharing what she had in mind.”
After all the fittings and changes, the best for Bessie is always the final fitting. It’s seeing the months of creating and constructing something truly unique and beautiful for one person. They recalled the time Pia had her final fitting and feeling a wave of happiness when she was twirling and walking in the dress. But the cherry on top was when she said that she loved the dress.
“That is music to my ears as a creative, as a designer, and as a friend.”
