From awards to adaptations, here’s how Filipino celebrities owned this year with their talent, grit, and passion
It is no secret that when it comes to performing, Filipinos really bring their A game. Besides any form of talent that may come natural, it is really the strength of character and persistence that truly set us apart from other races.
2022 has just proven that even at its best, the world of show business can still do better and give more. There is so much to look forward to in 2023, but let’s take a moment to commemorate how far Filipinos have come in the country and in the world. With that said, here’s a wrap up of all things entertainment this year:
Triple win adaptations
This year, we witnessed the Philippine adaptations of three big dramas with compelling storylines and dynamic characters. Piolo Pascual and Lovi Poe top-billed the crime-drama series Flower of Evil, which originated from South Korea.
Another K-Drama that had its own Filipino twist was Start Up, starring Bea Alonzo and Alden Richards.
Finally, our own adaptation of the British series Doctor Foster called The Broken Marriage Vow garnered numerous nominations and awards. Jodi Sta. Maria played the character of Jill Illustre, the wife scorned by her husband and his mistress.
True talent testament
Of course, Dolly De Leon tops the list for earning a Golden Globe nomination for her stellar performance on Triangle of Sadness.
Meanwhile, Jodi Sta. Maria is the first Filipino actress to win at the 2022 Asian Academy of Creative Awards.
Kylie Verzosa and Belle Mariano also flew to Dubai and South Korea to receive their accolades from the Distinctive International Arab Festival and Seoul International Drama Awards, respectively.

Coleen Garcia also earned international recognition for her performance in the film Kaluskos at Venezuela’s El Grito International Fantastic Film Festival.
Her other half, Billy Crawford, bested the other contestants and won at France’s Danse avec les stars (Dancing With The Stars).
Meanwhile, our very own boy group SB19 visited New York, Dubai, Los Angeles, and Singapore for their concert tour. Did you know that their fanbase A’TINs sold out their stops in less than 24 hours?
Trailblazing and tested tandems
The pairing trope is always present in Philippine television and cinema, whether it is found on filial roles, friendships, and romantic relationships. This year, Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla gave us a more mature take on rom-com with 2 Good 2 Be True. The said show even aired simultaneously on Netflix and iWanTFC.
Belle Mariano and Donny Pangilianan continued to rise as a love team this 2022 with the second season of He’s Into Her. They also led Star Cinema’s comeback with their film An Inconvenient Love.
New Kapamilya stars Janine Gutierrez and Lovi Poe starred as Harry and Luna in their first GL series called Sleep With Me. The said show had a cult following on Twitter, and many viewers enjoyed the complexities of a blossoming relationship between two women.
Finally, Jane De Leon’s Narda/Darna and Janella Salvador’s Regina/Valentina forged a tense hero-villain chemistry that has been keeping regular viewers and even shippers on the lookout for another possible project for the two. The unexpected partnership grew into a solid friendship between the two stars of Darna.
