Earlier today, we saw a number of Asian names affirming their presence and influence at the steps of the Met. From actors to idols, each luminary has placed their personal twist to their ensembles, all the while incorporating the Lagerfeld-coded elements in their whole style. With that, here’s a list of style highlights of your favorite Asian stars:

Karl Redux

What would the occasion be without the reiteration of Karl’s personal affinity for silver, sunnies, and suits? GOT7’s Jackson Wang paired his custom Louis Vuitton military suit with his sunglasses to achieve that modern Karl look for the Met Gala.

Meanwhile, performer Cai Xukun took notes on the designer’s incorporation of bling, hence his radzmire crystal embroidered coat.

The same went for Oscar-nominated actress Stephanie Hsu who added a collar and tie finish to hers, besides the sparkle.

Both Academy Award winner Ke Huy Quan and actor Marvel Simu Liu nailed the broached tie, gloves, and suits from Dior Men and Versace, respectively.

Finally, actress Ashley Park married Lagerfeld’s maker and muse elements with her custom Michael Kors gown. The silver chunks of jewelry, fingerless gloves, and pearled waist chain definitely gave Ashley’s look an edge at the Met Gala.

Lagerfeld Legacy

While some attendees opted to embody the designer for the night, others studied Karl’s creativity through his designs with fashion houses such as Chloé, Fendi, and Chanel. Championing a stronger take on femininity, the visionary asserted sophistication and elegance in his designs. Instead of steering clear of delicate adornments, he established them through floral touches, pearls, and volume, and lace.

As the house’s global ambassador, “Human Chanel” Jennie attended the Met Gala for the first time, donning a white camellia-inspired pleated dress from the 90s. The BLACKPINK member added a touch of black to her whole look with stockings and gloves.

Meanwhile, Song Hye Kyo cemented her presence at the Met with a satin and lace frock from Fendi’s Couture Spring/Summer 2023 collection. The design echoed the sheer sensation that Lagerfeld’s final collection for Fendi had.

Inspired by Claudia Schiffer’s 1992 Chanel bridal look, actress Alia Bhatt looked like a modern Chanel bride herself with a Prabal Gurung ball gown. According to her, the dress had 100,000 pearls cascading from her bodice to her skirt. Taking this look to a higher level, she even donned a fingerless glove for more Lagerfeld touch.

Last but not the least, Academy Award actress Michelle Yeoh exuded timeless elegance with her custom Karl Lagerfeld piece at the Met Gala. The sleeves of her collared off-shoulder top was a great nod to the designer’s playful take on volume and structure in his designs.
