Michael Leyva Takes Over The City Of Angels For LA Fashion Week

For its sixth season, Fashion Week returned to Los Angeles in a melting pot of international talent and sartorial virtuosos from the West Coast. Despite it being outside the big four—New York, Milan, London, and Paris—LA Fashion Week is proving to be one to watch out for with its celebration of diversity—carrying a multifarious mix of fashion mavens on the lineup to showcase their distinct design sensibilities on the grand runway.

Included in the sundry selection is Mexican streetwear label, Anuar Layon, Peruvian celebrity couturier Noe Bernacelli, Maison The Faux from Amsterdam and Filipino eveningswear designer Michael Leyva who’s a first time participant after being invited in the much-anticipated affair. Kicking off the opening gala, Leyva posed down the midnight carpet with his muse, international Filipina supermodel, Ann Colis, who sported a magenta trumpet dress with a plunging, deep V neckline and sheer illusion.

Colis, who stunned the fashion crowd, sauntered down the catwalk as she opened the show with an elaborate white halter ball gown with brocade details. The set was just as breathtaking as Leyva’s creations with a golden spotlight on the models and clothes amidst a blacklight illumination.

Speaking on his takeover of Los Angeles, Leyva tells MEGA, “Being in LA Fashion Week was really a great opportunity for me to fulfill my dream of dressing up Hollywood celebrities. In this platform, I believe it will be a good start on how I can fulfill that dream [further] and how my brand can be recognized internationally.” While it may have looked like a breeze as he sent his remarkable couture designs out on the floor, the designer explained the hard work it took to lay the groundwork for the occasion, “It gave [me] sleepless nights on preparing this collection but it was all worth it. I was very blessed to have my family, team, and friends to help me.”
