In a MEGA exclusive, Miss Universe 2022’s glam team consisting of Gery Peñaso and Dalewin Mallari reveal all the beauty details behind her alluring bronze goddess look
“To me, the definition and the true essence of a woman is one that can identify not only her personal strengths, but she can also bring out the strength in other women,” Miss Universe 2022 R’Bonney Gabriel once said during the Miss Universe Philippines 2023 coronation night. It’s certain that all eyes were on the outstanding contenders competing for the coveted title, but one thing that can’t be left unnoticed is the reigning queen’s show-stopping beauty.
“A true bronze goddess,” Gery Peñaso described Miss Universe 2022 R’Bonney Gabriel’s look for the coronation night before revealing the story behind her look. “The idea came to me when they showed us the gown,” he explained. “It’s super sexy and it’s also embellished with stones, so I wanted her skin and makeup to stand out alongside her ensemble.”
It’s undeniable that her hair and makeup are set to be a perennial inspiration in the beauty department. As luck would have it, her glam team that comprised of Gery Peñaso and Dalewin Mallari revealed all the secrets behind Miss Universe 2022 R’Bonney Gabriel’s alluring look and what it feels like to have her in the makeup chair.
The beauty breakdown
Miss Universe 2022 R’Bonney Gabriel is a true beauty, and Gery Peñaso would agree. In fact, the professional makeup artist unveiled how easy it is to work with the titleholder’s features. “As for this look, I really want to highlight her eyes,” he explained. “Maganda kasi ‘yung shape ng mata niya, so I just defined her crease and added a bit of shimmer in her lids. Meanwhile, R’Bonney wanted to go for a tight-lined eye look so I added a line of my trusted dark brown eyeliner.”
Of course, her side-parted bombshell hair deserves equal recognition, and behind the look is celebrity hairstylist Dalewin Mallari. “R’Bonney requested voluminous hair to complement her ensemble and makeup,” he shared. “I’m amazed that she has a vision in her mind for her look, but at the same time, is still open to our recommendations. She is really collaborative.”
Take it from the pro
The beauty chat wouldn’t be complete without knowing the top products and makeup techniques behind R’Bonney Gabriel’s bronze goddess look. But fret not, Gery Peñaso exclusively shared the details to achieve it. “As for the base makeup, I used the Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation and used the MAC Cosmetics Mineralize Skin Powder in Dark Deep for contour,” he revealed. “Elsewhere, I reached for Make Up Forever HD Pressed Powder to set everything.”
The beauty expert also shared an interesting story on how her lip shade shifted from nude to pink. “Initially, I wanted to go for a nude-ish brown shade for her, so I contoured the lips using a deep dark foundation. Actually, nag-freak out siya nu’ng nakita niya ‘yung look kasi para ka talagang kumain ng chocolate, but I told her to trust the process,” he shared. “And then nu’ng natapos na, she recommended going for a pink shade instead so we adjusted. It actually worked better! I like how collaborative she is with us kasi my direction talaga siya.”
Meanwhile, Dalewin Mallari unveiled his process to achieving R’Bonney Gabriel’s voluminous hair. “To achieve this look, I used a volumizing spray to prep the hair,” he shared. “It’s my best-kept secret to keep the height of her hair all night long.” The celebrity hairstylist also pointed out that a good hair tool helped elevate the look. “I used a one-inch curling iron and pinned it to retain the curls’ definition, and a roller to raise the roots of her flat hair.”
Working with the titleholder
“One thing that I have noticed about her is that she really knows the look that she wants,” Gery Peñaso reminisced on what it is like to work with the reigning queen. “Perhaps it’s because she is a designer and she has a vision sa kung anong babagay sa kanya, pero sobrang nagalingan ako sa kanya kasi first time kong mag-makeup ng Miss Universe na siya ‘yung nagdidirect ng look.” Apart from that, the artist also praised her creativity, attention to detail, and her overall attitude. “She’s also so appreciative. More of it, she’s really nice and warm.”
It’s one sentiment that would resonate with Dalewin Mallari well. “I was actually nervous before arriving,” he confessed. “But when I did her hair, she was really warm to all the people around the glam area. She also ensures that all questions and concerns for her are answered.”
