Thailand’s bet Opal Suchata Chuangsri made it to the coveted Top 5 roster at the Miss Universe 2024 in a symbolic evening gown created by Filipino designer Rian Fernandez
From winning on her home soil to securing a spot at the final five, Opal Suchata Chuangsri’s Miss Universe journey has captivated many. Her final walk was no different—stepping onto the stage in her evening gown that shimmered with purpose and pride. Aptly titled the “Queen’s Wings of Triumph,” it was designed by Filipino designer Rian Fernandez, who also created the queen’s evening gown donned at the Miss Universe Thailand 2024 event in July. Suchata bathed in the opulence of gold and white, and it was the perfect echo of her graceful rise to the top.

The gown was a tribute to the mythical Thai creature Thep Kinnaree, a half-human, half-swan being renowned for its graceful form. Every detail was carefully crafted to mirror that grace, starting with the off-shoulder neckline sculpted like the Kinnaree’s wings to perfectly frame Opal’s face. The gown—down to the bottom—evoked much meaning, the fluid blend of cream and gold evoking the elegance of a swan.
There’s much to say about the rich symbolism, but much too is owed to the vision and skill that brought it to life. The Filipino designer took to Instagram to share the intricate details: luxurious micro sequin embroidery in gold and white, creating a celestial effect that mirrored starlight on water. It’s this level of detail that made every step Opal took seem as if she was glowing from within.
While the coveted crown might have eluded her, Opal’s “Queen’s Wings of Triumph” still proved its worth. Fans from all over the globe couldn’t help but marvel at how she wore it with such regality, honoring her heritage in a way that felt both natural and commanding.
Rian Fernandez, having already dressed the likes of Miss Universe 2022 R’Bonney Gabriel and our very own bet Miss Universe Philippines Chelsea Manalo, once again demonstrated his expertise in elevating the beauty of a queen—this gown being yet another unforgettable piece in his collection.
