MMFF 2023 Features Tandems Between Sharon and Alden, and Dingdong and Marian

The first four films of the 2023 MMFF December Festival will star tandems that we missed and some we never knew we needed

With the ber months slowly making their way into our calendars, the anticipation for Christmas traditions has already begun. In the country, what’s a holiday break without the Metro Manila Film Festival or MMFF? For a number of Filipinos, this December habit is a chance to bond with their family members and friends or enjoy the task-free days of the vacation.

This year, MMFF has unveiled its first four entries for this year’s second installment. According to their official announcement, the organization based its picks on the scripts of the films. 

After almost 13 years, Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera will be reuniting again on the big screen with Rewind. The script, written by Enrico Santos, involves drama with a twist of magic realism in the plot. Mae Cruz-Alviar will be directing the film.

Adding fantasy-action to the mix, Penduko is also part of the selection, starring Matteo Guidicelli and Cristine Reyes. This is the seventh Pedro Penduko revival after Matt Evans’ character in 2007. The said MMFF entry will be directed by Jason Paul Laxama. 

Meanwhile, another drama entry will make its way to the MMFF festival with A Mother and A Son, starring Sharon Cuneta and Alden Richards. Directed by Nuel Naval, the movie is the first team up of the Megastar and Asia’s Multimedia Star.

Lastly, Beauty Gonzalez makes a horror comeback with the MMFF entry (K)ampon, to be directed by King Palisoc. The actress is solidifying her presence in the genre with the said movie being her fourth under the horror category after Abandoned (2019), Huwag Kang Lalabas (2021), and In My Mother’s Skin (2023). Derek Ramsey will topbill the film alongside Beauty.
