Fashion designer Neric Beltran shares the inspiration behind his latest Christmas decor design
Time flies, and Christmas is just around the corner. Compared to last year, many are facing the holidays with a more hopeful heart. Designer Neric Beltran is among those eager to spread the good cheer and joy, coming back with another collection of his best-selling Christmas ornaments.
Last year, Beltran started his holiday ornaments collection in a form of designer balls. Now he’s using upcycled materials (many sourced from his fashion design work) to create a fantastical range of one-of-a-kind creations. “The impact of waste especially in the fashion industry is something that all designers & consumers must take seriously. Also, this is the second year that I thought of giving my sewers and beaders jobs to get through the pandemic,” he shares.
Compared to last year, his design for this holiday season holds a deeper meaning, aside from it being environment friendly, as the collection was made to look like birds. “The inspiration for making birds as ornaments this year is the concept of freedom,” he says. “Since we all have been locked down many times, we experienced limited mobility.”
As he said, birds are a symbol of freedom, reaching new heights and peace. This Christmas season, Beltran aims to not just add beauty to homes, but also to remind that “even if we got stuck, locked down and limited. There is a time to fly!”
