Looks like no one can ever take the “Pambansang Krung Krung” out of the K-Pop icon with her classic hit found in her solo Korean debut track!
There’s a new amusement place we’re all gladly invited to, and it’s called Sandara Park. After the long wait of Blackjacks and her own fans, the 2NE1 alum finally makes her solo debut with her self-titled EP. The first track, “Festival,” leads into the four other tracks showcasing the singer’s quirky and cool vibe. But did you know it also pays homage to her “Filipino roots?”

Always in her heart
Netizens on Twitter rejoiced upon spotting the lyrics “in or out” in the second verse of the said song. Many of them praised the K-Pop idol for finding a way to include her classic bop in “Festival.” This is a reference to her first ever 2004 Filipino single, “In or Out,” which was part of her 2005 mini album called Sandara released in the Philippines.
The four other songs in her Korean debut EP include “Play!,” “Dara Dara,” “T Map,” and “Happy Ending.” Park worked with artists Gray, Heize, and SJWA in the production of her tracks. On the other hand, the 38-year old artist also featured singer-actress Uhm Jung Hwa, in her music video. The latter originally recorded “Festival” in 1999, with Sandara sampling it for her updated take on the song.
Never out of sight
Our “Pambansang Krung Krung,” who officially made her South Korean debut in 2009, became a member of 2NE1 alongside CL, Bom, and Minzy. Known as one of the most popular girl groups in their country and all over the world, they dominated with their hits such as “I Am The Best,” “Fire,” “I Don’t Care,” and more.
Since the group’s official disbandment in November 2016, the quartet reunited on the 2022 Coachella stage during CL’s set. Keeping their friendship solid beyond their time as a group, they continue to support each other’s individual projects.
The three members have also shown their support to Dara’s solo debut online, with Bom posting the music video’s teaser on her Instagram. Meanwhile, Minzy dropped a screenshot of her listening to “Festival” in her story. Finally, group leader CL wrote a heartfelt message to the artist on her post. “Things that have been repeated and experienced countless times will feel new again now, but I hope you fully feel and enjoy this moment,” her translated caption said. She also visited her found sister during her music video shoot.
