As this is Paolo’s second year leading the MEGA Ball, it’s clear that he’s a seasoned pro by now, but last night, he really turned it up a notch. Compared to his previous directing experience, the director describes this year’s MEGA Ball as a more concise and intimate night of fashion. He also mentioned that he is thankful to have family and friends there to celebrate with him, like his wife Sam and cousin Gab, and people he looks up to, including Toma Cayabyab, son of renowned composer and conductor Ryan Cayabyab. The director expressed his delight at leading such a significant occasion, saying, “It is always a pleasure doing this ball.”

Filipino spotlight

Paolo was precise not only in executing the event smoothly, but also in paying attention to every detail. He made sure to put together an unforgettable set list for this year, ensuring that it highlighted the talent of Filipino artists and celebrated the vibrant OPM scene, especially on Independence Day. Featuring acts like the Manila Symphony Orchestra and the cast of Ang Huling El Bimbo, Paolo aimed to shine a spotlight on the rich musical heritage of the Philippines.

In Paolo’s view, the future of our Filipino artists is bright as more and more Filipinos are actively supporting and promoting the local music scene. “I feel like OPM did not get this much support, and this is the best time to champion it,” he mentioned. The director also expressed gratitude to MEGA for not only trusting his creative vision but also for their unwavering support of Filipino artists and musicians.
