The first month of the fashion year has witnessed the decade-defining showcase for menswear and haute couture. On the runway, luxury houses took the opportunity to fully exhibit a new sense of creative energy through a play on silhouettes, textures, and accents. It’s expected that imaginative garments fronted most of the shows. However, the season made a case for numerous makeup formats that signals a new era in beauty.

Now that Paris Haute Couture Week has come to an end, we look back at all the creative visuals we’ve spotted on the runway. From Schiaparelli’s reimagined gold face to Paco Rabanne’s interpretation of soft-grunge glam, here are this season’s standout beauty moments.
Siren skin
It appears that siren skin is quite synonymous with this season’s visual direction. Take Iris van Herpen’s Spring 2023 Carte Blanche as an example. Known for diversifying her craft into science and technology, the designer showcased her garments through a film format shot at the bottom of the Y-40 pool in Italy. In the presentation, models donned a fresh, hydrated, glossed-like complexion. Another noteworthy mention includes Valentino’s Spring 2023 Le Club Couture, which punctuated the beauty of dewy and radiant skin on the runway.
Gold face
Daniel Roseberry’s fashion translation of Dante’s Divine Comedy for Schiaparelli’s Spring 2023 is one collection that is hard to miss. Aside from Shalom Harlow’s leopard chest, Naomi Campbell’s wolf coat, and Irina Shayk’s true-to-life lion head accent, Maggie Maurer’s gold face captured the beauty sphere’s recognition. The look serves as a nod to the Creative Director’s signature plated pieces and an inspiration for fans to embrace a more experimental take on makeup.
Soft grunge
Cassey Cadwallader’s most-anticipated return to the runway for Mugler Fall/Winter 2023 verified the rise of grunge beauty. Inside the La Villette, the brand presented a saga of glossy black lipsticks, ghost brows, and smokey eyeshadow. Meanwhile, Ronald van der Kemp’s Spring 2023 Couture embraced a more gothic direction with a play on vampy lips and black eyeshadows. Standout detail? The graphic eyeliner formats inspired by Julia Fox’s controversial look. It seems like the Uncut Gems actress is a true fashion muse after all.
Kiss curls
Maria Grazia Chiuri redefines classic elegance with the Dior Spring/Summer 2023 Haute Couture showcase. In the show notes, the luxury powerhouse revealed that the collection was inspired by star and civil rights activist, Josephine Baker, and modern cabaret-style and classic suits took over the runway. Apart from that, the beauty direction also nodded to her signature kiss curls. The look is often described as a lock of hair curling onto the face and usually plastered down with the use of a hair gel or soap.
Playful eye makeup
Haute Couture Week is an invitation to be as imaginative and experimental as possible. In the beauty realm, Haider Acckermann’s Jean Paul Gaultier Spring/Summer 2023 Haute Couture presentation unveiled a creative take on bright green and electric orange eyeshadow palettes. Meanwhile, South Korean newcomer Miss Sohee made the runway its beauty playground with their series of bold eye makeup looks and plum lipsticks.
