#ZeroToCEO: The Woman of the House Builds Her Own Skincare Empire

#ZeroToCEO: The Woman of the House Builds Her Own Skincare Empire

Pauline Deyparine, founder and CEO of skincare brand PSPH Beauty, is the determined girl boss we all aspire to be

As kids, we were all asked what we wanted to be in the future. Answers varied from doctors, teachers, to even something as frivolous as becoming a prince or princess. As we matured, our paths toward our professions became clearer and more direct. There are those who went to graduate school, migrated to different countries, or started their own businesses–some even during the craziness of the global pandemic. Establishing an entirely new brand in the middle of an economic crisis may seem like a questionable decision, but PSPH Beauty founder and CEO Pauline Jizelle Hernandez Deyparine only had bold tenacity in her blood, and sheer determination on her mind.

Epitome of the best policy

For a total of seven years before the creation of PSPH Beauty, Deyparine was a simple online reseller of skincare and beauty products from different countries around Asia like Japan and Thailand. Apart from selling goods from established and start-up brands, she also used to provide genuine reviews after using some of the items herself. These companies even contact her directly to ask if she can give her most authentic assessment because they know she tells the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Through her honest reviews, she was able to gain the trust of a myriad of brands.

It wasn’t all glitter and gold

Before we reach the highest of highs, it’s not uncommon for some to experience the lowest of lows, however that may be. For Deyparine, her life took an immediate and unexpected detour when she was deceived by her supposed business partners in December of 2019. She trusted them with a whopping PHP 16 million before said partners got up and bolted. Seven years worth of blood, sweat, and tears from being an online reseller were gone in the blink of an eye. This took a toll on her as she eventually succumbed to the influence of different vices, thinking that her life would continue to crumble all the way to the ground. The rapid transition from having almost everything that she has ever wanted to being left with the crumbs of what she used to have hit her faster than expected. For the first half of 2020, she barely had the energy and willpower to continue striving for the bright future she was so close to getting.

Walang natira [para] sa akin.”

Pauline Deyparine, PSPH Beauty Founder and CEO, on what drove her to take a business risk in the midst of a pandemic

Onward and upward

When June 2020 arrived, Deyparine said to herself that she couldn’t live like how she was for the past six months. According to her, she thought, “Lalo akong lulubog kung hindi ako kikilos.” After a long period of dread and self-loathing, the determined boss-to-be finally left the dreary place she was in and got to work.

Deyparine knew she had to save every single cent to be able to continue putting a roof over her and her family’s head. From July to September of last year, she was quietly building her name and online business back up again by reselling anything and everything trendy at the time. She pushed like no one has pushed before–so much more than she ever did when she started. She thought that doing even just a smidge less than a hundred percent would be unsatisfactory, and that can’t suffice given the unfathomable situation she was in. The struggles she endured in those three months were painful, yet she had the willpower to overcome the tragedy that life handed her. Deyparine had her eyes on the prize, and no one could stand in her way this time around.

After being able to save as much as she could in that short period of time, a friend of hers reached out a month later to ask if she wanted to become a CEO of her own brand. Out of curiosity and interest, she studied the ins and outs of the business for another month before officially launching PSPH Beauty in November 2020. At long last, a mighty win for the bold and brave entrepreneur.

The mighty power of declaration

It has only been nine months since the beginning of PSPH Beauty, and yet it has already garnered more than 50,000 loyal clients and customers, more than 100,000 products sold, and more than a million likes on social media. When asked if she ever thought her brand would be what it is today, she believed and manifested that eventually, it will be–just not in less than a year after its official launch. Her powerful drive and unwavering focus got her and her brand standing strong in spite of all the hits that she took almost two years ago. A true underdog, indeed.
