Honoring Virgil

Merely two days after the commemoration of Virgil Abloh’s passing, Pharrell orchestrated an impressive tribute to his late friend, subtly weaving in elements reminiscent of his tenure as the creative director of the house. From iconic emblems to distinct patterns, the resonance of Virgil’s vision reverberated throughout the latest collection. Embracing Abloh’s legacy, Pharrell carried forth the essence of skate culture that has become synonymous with Virgil’s designs.

The collection distinctly channels a tropical aura, blending island vibes with a sleek, formal, and dapper aesthetic. Picture bringing the entire essence of Hawaii into the heart of Hong Kong. The runway featured tropical prints adorned with vibrant hothouse flowers, spanning across suits and surfboards. Sliders also took center stage on the feet of most models. The inspiration? Surf culture, as models paired their looks with long-sleeved rash vests, proudly bearing the “Vuitton” symbol.

Seas of style

For this presentation, Williams navigated through the realms of classic menswear, injecting a contemporary twist into traditional styles. Think double-breasted suits paired with bell-bottomed trousers and chunky-soled leather sandals. The double-denim trend also gets a stylish makeover, together with pleated shorts, varsity jackets, and windbreakers, showcasing Louis Vuitton’s prowess in balancing timeless and trendy. On the accessory front, the spotlight shines on the debut of the LV Space Lander slip-on in suede and denim, standing alongside the attention-grabbing 3D-printed LV Cobra. Pharrell’s signature “LVers” touch graces staples, too, culminating in a mesmerizing drone show featuring the motif in the night sky.

Another standout feature of the show was the spotlight on the sailor aesthetic, showcasing round hats reminiscent of the 1950s. Models paired this maritime touch with their ensembles, instantly channeling the breezy spirit of the sea and immersing the audience in a refreshing wave of the collection. Pharrell himself took on the finale, donning this distinctive accessory, flawlessly coordinating it with a beige suit and his signature rhinestone-ringed sunglasses.
