The fashion industry has been buzzing about Pharrell ever since he was appointed as the Creative Director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear line in February. On Tuesday night during Paris Men’s Fashion Week, he presented an amazing collection for Spring/Summer 2024 in Pont Neuf. Together with his wife, Helen Lasichanh, and their four children, Pharrell went down the runway at the end of the presentation dressed in camouflage. From an impressive line of accessories to sleek, fresh silhouettes, here are some of the highlights of his first collection for the brand.

The inspiration

The warmth of the sun served as the main inspiration for the Spring/Summer 2024 Louis Vuitton men’s collection. According to their statement, it was the Maison’s new Men’s Creative Director who proposed to use his debut collection to deliver a message about how the sun is a source of life for people all over the world. The collection undeniably achieved its vision, from the graphic rays to the warm color palette to the shimmering surface decorations that adorn the clothes and accessories.

Camo couture

Pharrell’s unique and inventive take on camouflage, which they dubbed Damoflage, was one of the most eye-catching aspects of the entire presentation. Damoflage fuses the classic Louis Vuitton Damier design with camouflage while paying homage to Pharrell’s long-time friends in Paris. Evoking the outdoorsy spirit of camouflage, colorized landscape patterns appear in prints and jacquards on blanket coats, blousons, pajamas, and shirts, while the Louis Vuitton flower design is laser cut all over on coats and bags.

Pixel perfect

Louis Vuitton’s iconic Damier chess board design has received an update, giving it a more refined and appealing reputation. ET Artist, a pixel artist from the United States, is responsible for the 8-bit Atari Damier pattern. The stitch-like 3D pigment print used to interpret the texture of the Damier leather in outerwear and tailoring definitely stole the show.

The dandy vibe

Suits are an essential part of any man’s fashion display. For his debut, Pharrell infused Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection with a dandy spirit. It is simply updating classic styles with modern cuts on well-tailored suits. From collarless expressions seen in band-collared tunics to styles that incorporate box-pleat shorts everywhere, Louis Vuitton successfully delivered a modern yet elegant take on suiting.

Striking accents

We predicted that Pharrell would add some flashy new items to his line in February, and he certainly did not disappoint. Super Zoom sunglasses, along with similar Goggle-style sunglasses, are a notable example. The Super Zoom models feature lens-shaped caps, while the Goggle-style glasses are pearl-studded. The collection also debuted elaborate new styles of costume jewelry, such as flower pendants, crystal cement, and pearls. Adding to an already impressive line, stylish earrings, rope chains like those once employed by the Maison to secure trunks during transport, and sterling silver ball necklaces and bracelets were also on display.

Pharrell’s first collection also featured a fantastic assortment of explorer caps and glamping hats. In addition, they showcased baseball caps with a reflection of Damier crochet beanies in vibrant colors. Dandy belts in antique-looking metals with jewels and pearls, chain belts with rhinestone-encrusted buckles, and pearl constructions were also among the stunning items he introduced.

What’s next?

Celebration was in the air at Pharell’s presentation, which featured the collection to the accompaniment of a full orchestra. In contrast to the quiet luxury trend, Pharell presented a loud yet sophisticated collection that had an abundance of striking logos and bright eye-catching hues. After such a promising beginning, one would wonder, “What’s next for Louis Vuitton?” While the future is uncertain, it is evident that a new direction that still has the house codes of Louis Vuitton in its DNA was ushered in, making it thrilling to anticipate what more Pharrell may present in his following collections.
