Former beauty queens Catriona Gray, Kylie Verzosa, and Pia Wurtzbach now stand as our blueprints to wearing a feathered look in different ways, for different occasions
Since their beauty queen days, Catriona Gray, Kylie Verzosa, and Pia Wurtzbach have understood the importance of making a statement through style. Who could ever forget our Miss Universe 2018’s intentional Mayon Volcano-inspired evening gown? Until today, she remains to be the standard for beauty pageants across the universe. Meanwhile, the Miss International 2016 continues to turn heads with her awards show looks. And for the Miss Universe 2015, she is also conquering the streets of Milan and Paris for her Fashion Week ensembles.

As great minds do think alike, the three queens have sported a trend that they channeled in different ways—the feathered look. Whether as a complementing texture or a contrasting effect, feathers add a certain appeal to each style in many ways. With this appliqué of choice for their event outfits, they proved that true queens know a versatile trend when they see one. With that, here’s how Pia, Kylie, and Catriona channeled feathered trend for each of their remarkable events:
In natural bloom
Turning 30 doesn’t mean outgrowing your sweet girl nature, and that’s what Catriona’s birthday dress expressed. The black feathers springing from each floral detail added a little edge to her pink Ulysses Caragayan ensemble. With all the meanings attached to feathers, this particular touch to her dress can symbolize rebirth, evolution, and protection for her new chapter ahead as she entered a new decade in her life.
Suited to stand out
Trust on one Pia Wurtzbach to elevate a classic work to party look. Designer Mark Bumgarner took on the trend by adding magenta feathers on the beauty queen-turned-author’s all-black suit, applying them in a floating-like style. Indeed, Pia is going places for her book signing events and for this style as well.
A raven in flight
Kylie carries an overall sultry and sophisticated fashion sense, and one of her film fest looks was no exception to that. For the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, she was a raven to behold as she sported a ball gown design from Mark Bumgarner. The feathers spread out of her ball gown skirt, framing her train. Coupled with the bralette bodice and the encrusted train, that ensemble was surely a red carpet look to remember.
