Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons collide retro-futuristic elements with avant-garde experimentation, from surreal silhouettes to superhero-inspired details

If Prada Spring/Summer 2025 were a vacation, it would be a trip to Mars. The collection is an experiment in time-bending fashion, where past and future collide in an audacious vision of infinite possibility. Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, with their confidence, delivered a collection that feels as though it’s pulled from the depths of some alternate universe, yet still intimately familiar—a paradox that Prada embraces with ease.

This season unravels the linearity of fashion’s timeline, creating what feels like an algorithm-gone-wild. Collars defy gravity, shoes twist into surreal shapes, and belts exist only as printed illusions—an exploration of what fashion can be when it transcends its own rules. It’s as though AI tried to design Prada but couldn’t quite get it right, leaving subtle imperfections that make the garments all the more intriguing.

Superhero motifs are woven throughout the collection, but not as literal capes. Bright tights and leggings in shades of crimson, lilac, and chartreuse evoke comic book heroes, while parkas paired with dramatic evening gowns create striking juxtapositions—reinventing the idea of power dressing for a modern, fantastical world. It’s an elevation of the wearer into their own version of a superhero, with the clothes acting as armor, shields, and authority.

The accessories in Prada’s SS25 collection were as surreal as the garments themselves, particularly the bug-eyed glasses that instantly became the focal point of each look. These oversized, cartoonish spectacles transformed the models into futuristic, larger-than-life characters, adding more eccentricity to the otherwise sophisticated silhouettes.

The throwback elements were integrated throughout the runway, with subtle yet unmistakable references to previous iconic collections. For instance, the return of the platform brogues from the SS21 collection was a standout, but this time they were supersized into towering platform derbies that felt more audacious than ever.

The collection revived that 1960s vision of the future, when space-age metallics and psychedelic colors ruled the runway. But this time, the looks were reinvented for today’s avant-garde traveler, someone more concerned with style than practicality. Raffia hats for the beach? Check. Nylon bags and raincoats? Absolutely. Metallic dresses studded with silver eyelets and shoes tipped in steel? More so than ever.

What unfolded was nothing short of surreal—a parade of contradictions, where classic silhouettes informed elements from a different galaxy. Prada had cracked open a portal where the past, present, and future coexisted, yet everything made sense.

It’s a collection that both asks and answers the question: why follow a fleeting trend when you can rewrite the rules entirely? Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons continue to be a step ahead, walking us through a future that only it can see, and inviting us only to wear them.
