Now more than ever, celebrities are starting to realize the power of their influence in addressing the issues of society. When it comes to celebrating Pride and going against discrimination and judgment, seeing individuals with power and traction show their courage and support is truly powerful. Whether a member of the community or not, whether living life in the spotlight or not, one knows how prejudice and discrimination can deter us from being truly happy and at peace.

Last weekend, four women proudly made a stand with Pride in different ways. Janella Salvador, Andrea Brillantes, Gabbi Garcia, and Michelle Dee indeed proved that with great power comes greater responsibility for the community. Here’s how they chose to celebrate love, freedom, and individuality in their own meaningful ways.

Painting pride with subtlety

Tattoo artist Rydel recently posted Janella’s newest addition to her subtle body tattoos. This time, it’s a minimalist ring band tattoo in a spectral pink and orange color. Looking closely at the actress’ hand, she made sure to express her Pride celebration with her choice of nail design—the Pride flag! Among her contemporaries, Janella is one of the most expressive when it comes to speaking up about news and issues in the LGBTQIA+ community, and we love her more for that!

Glammed up with pride

At the Love Laban Pride event last Saturday, Andrea made an appearance in her full drag look, entertaining the attendees with a performance! The actress was joined by her Drag You & Me co-star, JC Alcantara. In her recent Magandang Buhay guesting, Andrea shared that she has been exposed to the LGBTQIA+ community since her childhood and she carries a lot of respect for its members. According to her, she is also a big fan of drag because of the creativity involved in the craft.

Riding through pride

As an ally of the community for her sister Alex, Gabbi joined the Pride Ride as the plus one of her father. According to the actress on Instagram, it was her dad who initiated their showing of support. Gabbi wrote in her caption, “I love you Dad!! Thank you for stepping up and making a difference!!”

Taking pride in oneself

Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michelle Dee attended not just one, but two events for her community! She joined the Quezon City crowd for the Love Laban celebration last Saturday, and also performed in the Love Yourself Pride Night with friend and co-actress Rhian Ramos. The beauty queen-actress, who came out publicly as bisexual in an exclusive feature with MEGA, remarked, “It was never an issue because I felt—and I still feel like—I’m so much more than how I identify myself. I have so much more to offer the world and the universe than how I identify myself.”
