Gwendoline Christie
In recent times, Gwendoline Christie discussed her new role as Larissa Weems on the Netflix series, Wednesday. “It is the first time I’ve ever felt beautiful on screen,” Christie candidly shared as she nodded to the show’s hair and makeup department including costume designer, Colleen Atwood. “The way she made me feel was [that] my body felt celebrated and beautiful. Never once did I feel like there was something to hide or something to be ashamed of. She made me feel incredible.”
Jenna Ortega
“I was very hairy,” Jenna Ortega opened up in a video for Podcrushed. “I have dark hair. I’m Latina. I remember being insecure about my leg hair, but my arm hair more.” As the interview continued, the actress also recalled the time when she received a snarky comment about it. “There was a girl who I was friends with who told me that I have gorilla arms, as you called it, because I have long arm hair.” Ortega also emphasized that it became her deepest insecurity, adding, “No one ever addressed it ever again, but it’s still, to this day, every single day, I shave my arms. Even if there’s stubble or anything. I get really insecure about it again.”
Catriona Gray
In 2018, Catriona Gray revealed that she grew up feeling awkward in her skin and her height. The Miss Universe title holder revealed that she was already 5’8 at the age of 12, and also struggled with skin concerns. “I just felt kind of awkward. I didn’t want to be seen. I just wanted to shrink into normalness,” Catriona shared. However, as years passed, she learned to embrace her insecurities. “It turns out, it’s really handy pala!” she mentioned. “Of course, when you’re a child, you don’t really see that kind of thing.”
Kathryn Bernardo
Kathryn Bernardo proved that she is past her insecurities. In her vlog, the actress addressed the negative comments about her legs. “Over the years, natutunan kong tanggapin ‘yung legs ko,” she shared. “Yes, they’re not straight, but parte [sila] ng pagkatao ko. And before, sobrang insecurity ko ‘to.” The actress also nods to her long-term boyfriend, Daniel Padilla, for helping her overcome her insecurities.
Alexa Ilacad
One celebrity who is vocal about her body struggles is Alexa Ilacad. In an episode of Pinoy Big Brother, the actress shared, “I see myself differently than how it looks. When I look in the mirror, I feel disgusted. I despise the person I see in the mirror.” Alexa also became honest about her experience growing up in the spotlight. “I’ve been in the [showbiz] industry for more than half of my life since I was a kid. I was never the thin type, my body type was really different from all the other girls.” Since then, the actress has opened a conversation and helped raise awareness for body dysmorphic disorder or BDD.
