Charging up the runway with electrifying action, Converse brings us to the 90s with the VLTG collection.
Billed as the all-time favorite sneaker brand that’s versatile to any fashion style, Converse boasts of a significant style upgrade by incorporating high-contrast chevron designs inspired by 90s era of basketball patterns. It’s now easy to sport the edgy and conventional style with these new, women’s-only basketball patterned VLTG shoes.
MEGA Fashion Associate/Stylist, Lyn Alumno shared how she felt awestruck when Converse came to ask her to style the looks for the iconic VLTG collection. With her love for both basketball and fashion, as well as her previous involvement in a women’s basketball team, Lyn looked forward to styling for Converse. Describing the style of the models, Lyn shares “They wanted to break the boundaries of athletic wear by going for a mix of contemporary looks in punk and street renditions.” Featuring different clothing textures—leather, denim, fur, and velvet in black–the Converse show delivered striking and bold silhouettes.
From when we used to be a little kid to now, Converse sneakers has always been the major go-to, and it continues to serve us that functionality as they revamp their line of shoes. Same goes for Lyn when she injected some of the things she used to do with her old Chucks: mismatched sneakers & using extra shoelaces to edge out her outfit for that oomph as seen in the show. Aside from the chunky and wide sneakers, the VLTG collection includes Converse’s signature high-cut sneakers.
Elevating the sneaker trend with the VLTG collection is the key to it. “I pulled out from talented young designers, then amplified it with silver hardware for punk then utilitarian accessories for the street segment. It’s an amazing sneaker that transcends all gender norms and makes you feel limitless and invincible,” Lyn shares. “From the looks, glam and down to the soundtrack, the vibe of the whole show was really based on the riveting silhouette of the shoe.”
As the show finally began, crowd shifted their eyes to the outrageous style the models were wearing. “I’m all for women empowerment; we just have to remind ourselves of how strong we are most of the days,” shares Lyn. “As soon as the models sashayed down the runway with that IDGAF attitude, you knew it was going to be a great show.”
Proving how chic and stylish one can be while wearing Converse, Asia’s Next Top Model candidate Jennica Sanchez and MEGA September 2019 cover Kiana Valenciano stirred the runway with how they exemplified the Converse look. “Kiana V killed it as usual and everyone felt unapologetically fearless afterwards,” Lyn adds.
