Scared Of Making The First Move? This App Helps You Overcome That

In conservative countries such as the Philippines, society has been rather judgmental towards women who make the first move, giving them all sorts of labels. Thankfully, women-first social networking app Bumble is helping to change all that. After all, what is wrong with going for what you want?

Founded by Whitney Wolfe-Herd in 2014 after being frustrated that smart and successful women she knew were simply waiting for men to ask them out, the platform has since then inspired women to make braver decisions. And how does it do this, one might wonder? Simple. Bumble has a unique feature that requires women to send the first message after a match.

The application has grown far beyond a mere dating app, encouraging individuals to make meaningful connections in different areas of their lives. Bumble Date and Bumble BFF has already been in the country for quite some time now. But together with the app’s launch in Manila comes another game-changing feature– Bumble Bizz, made for those looking to grow their professional network.

“We love how Filipinos are becoming more progressive when it comes to gender roles, and this is a great opportunity to remind them to make the first move in all aspects of their lives,” shares Michelle Battersby, Bumble’s Associate Marketing Director, APAC.

At the launch party, Filipina personalities and Bumble Ambassadors Patricia Henson, Laureen Uy and Mari Jasmine were present to share their experiences of how they look charge of their own lives. Henson, for example, recalls a time in which she made the first move, talking about her line Costa Swimwear: “Starting it out was difficult but I always trusted my gut and was confident in making all my moves. If there is something you want that you can’t find, it’s up to you to make that happen,” she says.

Whether in love, in your friendships on in your career, Bumble is a nice reminder to take charge of your life in the most authentic way possible.
