Heartbreak Warfare: Showbiz’s Biggest Breakups – And How They Are Now

By

All good things must come to an end — and that includes even the most swoon-worthy celebrity couples.

Though they’ve had some good times together under the spotlight, these couples rocked the showbiz world when they announced their separations. Though (most) of them may be on good terms now, we can’t help but take a look back through memory lane.

Gerald Anderson and Kim Chiu

The original Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition couple were like a match made in love team heaven. The adorable chinita girl and the Fil-Am bad boy had a certain chemistry that followed them through numerous projects after their PBB win.

The teen couple eventually broke up in 2010, with tensions apparently rising in 2014 after Gerald started dating Kim’s friend, Maja Salvador. Drama has followed them as recently as 2020, when Kim name-dropped Gerald’s then-undisclosed girlfriend, Julia Barretto, during It’s Showtime.

Heart Evangelista and Jericho Rosales

There’s nothing quite like a parallel worlds love story. Heart and Jericho were the teen matinee dream of the early 2000s, as they lifted each other up through numerous films together. Even years after their three-year relationship ended in 2008, Heart and Echo still speak fondly of each other. Heart even revealed that Echo was her “greatest love” back in 2012.

Now, the two are happily married with their respective spouses. Heart is living in Sorsogon with Senator Chiz Escudero, while Jericho is Marikina-based with his wife Kim Jones.

Piolo Pascual and KC Conception

Despite being a whirlwind romance only spanning from 2010 to 2011, it was definitely a game-changing union for the duo. Piolo started courting KC as soon as she was of age, as it took two long years to get a yes from the actress.

Since they’re working in the same industry, the two have been keeping it professional ever since their public breakup. In an August 2020 interview with MEGA Entertainment editor G3 San Diego, KC revealed that she regrets the breakup. “I think that in any relationship, you really have faith in it and you go into it not thinking that you want to end it,” she shared. “You go into it thinking that you want it.”

Nadine Lustre and James Reid

The ultimate cool couple started out like any most showbiz pair: they were a love team. After entering the spotlight together in Diary ng Panget, the “reel-turned-real” couple crafted themselves anew in the industry as stand-out artists.

Despite rumors of a comeback in recent months, the two are still staying true to their craft as labelmates under James’ music label CARELESS Music. They also worked together on Nadine’s debut album, Wildest Dreams, released in November of 2020.

Catriona Gray and Clint Bondad

After six years and numerous pageants together, it was a shock for fans to learn that the Miss Universe broke up with her longtime boyfriend, actor Clint Bondad. Before he deleted them, Clint’s Instagram was once filled with sweet pictures of Cat, pre-Miss U.

Despite initially claiming that it was an amicable breakup, Clint eventually started posting cryptic stories on social media about Cat and then-rumored boyfriend, Sam Milby. Stories captioned “P.S. I create Queens. Because I push you beyond all your limits” worried fans, but Clint soon stopped his social media flooding.

Carlo Aquino and Angelica Panganiban

Is there anything as bittersweet as bad timing? CarGel have had their fair share of almosts all through the years – from 90s teenyboppers to teasing a comeback in 2019. The two were assumed to continue their on and off tangle. Then Carlo Aquino shocked (and delighted) the world with the arrival of his baby girl Enola Mithi with non-showbiz girlfriend, Trina Candaza.

When asked if might have led Angelica on, Carlo said that it was a real possibility.
