Siya Daryani On How Self-Expression Fosters A Community With Equality

With an inclusive and holistic approach to women empowerment, Siya Daryani is inspiring others, regardless of gender, to embrace who they are.

If there’s anyone who moves and grooves to her own beat, it’s Siya Daryani. “Power is acceptance of what is and embracing and appreciating it to create a flow in life, while beauty has different shades,” she says. From founding her performing and events company, OneTwoStep, and being the other half of fashion styling service, Closet Culture, Siya is inspiring women to freely express themselves on their own terms. “Power is from within, and beauty is what mirrors it from the outside, both of which we should own humbly,” she shares, hoping that the progression of women empowerment is a reminder of equality and not be misconstrued as a movement to bash and discourage men.

“A lot of times feminism is taken as putting men down and elevating women, I think we should model the idea of equality as giving women and man the same value, instead of putting each other down,” she explains. “I see us standing shoulder to shoulder with men, valuing one another, and embracing our unique power together.

Anyone who knows Siya personally will readily share that she radiates a kind of palpable confidence that comes from having a deep knowledge of herself and the positive environment she surrounds herself with. The key to achieving this she tells me, is to equally make time for self-care, career and family. “A lot of times people kind of leave one or the other out. So, if you meditate you align with your soul and become stronger inside. For your mind, you work towards your success, and you take care of your family to achieve happiness and joy. So, when it comes to physicality, it’s very important to have a balance and take care of yourself. If you’re not going to take care of yourself, you’re not going to be able to take care of others,” she affirms. “You should always put in an effort for yourself because it’s a sign that you value and love yourself.”
