Last February, internationally renowned muralist James Goldcrown brings his iconic Love Wall heart designs to the Skechers x JGoldcrown global collaboration as part of the Skechers Visual Artist Series. The artist’s colorful and inspiring prints are featured on a range of lifestyle products for women and girls.
The art of love
Born in West London, James Goldcrown is a self-taught muralist, artist, and photographer now based in New York and Los Angeles. Goldcrown ventured into the fashion photography world at age 17, and seven years later found himself in Africa filming the documentary “To Die No More” about the AIDS/HIV epidemic.
In 2015, Goldcrown eventually found new inspiration from his street art roots, and the internationally recognized Love Wall premiered at Miami Basel. His Instagrammable murals have achieved cult status with 50K+ #Lovewall public hashtags. Goldcrown works with brands in the lifestyle, restaurant, beauty, and fashion industries, with his iconic design appearing in cities worldwide.
A champion of sending positive messages to the globe, he now brings that thought to the footwear market through a collaboration with Skechers. Goldcrown said he met Skechers’ Jeremy Saul, head of strategic partnerships, at an event before the pandemic and immediately hit it off.
The artist then visited Skechers’ Southern California offices to meet the team and work with the shoe designers to bring his artwork to life. “They understood where I wanted to go with the design,” he said. “They’re based on different murals I’ve done around the world—some are louder than others.”
A romantic style
Goldcrown was grateful for the opportunity, stressing that hope and love can make a difference in a difficult time. “Something as simple as a heart can really touch people, so hopefully we’ll spread some love,” the artist said.
