There isn’t a more exhausted term in the fashion lexicon than the word ‘fab’—that and chic, which we are being completely honest, would rather hear less of. Extreme, exceptional, and extraordinary by definition, the truncation of fabulous has already essayed itself on the stream of the mundane, which has punctuated many a conversation that categorically falls under the style umbrella, which has proven to be a numb knee-jerk response to anything that categorically falls under the style umbrella.
Not that there is anything wrong with it. However, in a world that’s supposed to hold a high regard for the extremes, there needs to be a quick sharpening of the industry’s favorite superlative.
Under the willful baton of esteemed fashion designer and once-upon-a-time mentor of Project Runway Philippines, Jojie Lloren introduces F.A.B. Creatives, a learning platform that takes a holistic, all-encompassing approach to fashion education. The acronym, which spelled out stands for fashion, arts, and business, is set to bring the prestige back to the word, which comes with it a guarantee for potential students to learn all aspects of fashion, from the technical, creative, and commercial process, which they can use to shape their journey in the industry.
The goal is well-meaning and earnest: to gather a prodigious pool of potential to not only benefit and succeed from the comprehensive program, but also to lead the local fashion realm into the horizon of the future. With its nature to nurture, future design visionaries at F.A.B. would be limited to a size of maximum eight students, where they will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich history and incomparable creative spirit of Philippine design by being mentored by renowned professionals and tireless pundits in their respective fields in fashion such as Rhoda Campos-Aldanese, Jackie Aquino, Ivar Aseron, Vic Barba, Jo Ann Bitagcol, Sara Black, Ria De Borja, Robbie Carmona, Joey Cobcobo, Maco Custodio, Mich Dulce, Rhett Eala, Luis Espiritu, Apple Faraon, Jun De Leon, Tweetie De Leon-Gonzalez, Jojie Lloren, Ariel Lozada, Dennis Lustico, Noel Manapat, Alvin Matias, Lesley Mobo, Cheche Moral, Rita Nazareno, Joyce OreÑa, Raymond Paderna, Pidge Reyes, Romain Rivierre, Gian Romano, Patrick Rosas, Joey Samson, Cherry Veric, and Inno Sotto
For a year starting from October 2019, the F.A.B. Comprehensive Fashion Program will teach courses on everything from the Creative Process, Fashion Illustration, Making A Fashion Collection, Portfolio Making, to more technically precise ones such as Creative Sewing, Women’s Wear Design, Garment Construction, Fashion Accessory Design, Fashion Draping, Menswear Design, Fashion Merchandising, Terno Sleeve Making, and Entrepreneurship.
Intensive and results-based, the condensed fashion curriculum is set to put the students through the rigors, equipping them with the competencies and proficiencies to build their own futures, just as the luminaries before them have done so before them.
Potential candidates for the one year scholarship will be screened according to financial capability, level of interest and aptitude for fashion. The requirements aren’t a stretch, for as long as one is a Filipino citizen and resident, at least 18 years old and a high school graduate makes them eligible. Aside from the necessary 2×2 photo, contact details, and birth certificate, a motivation letter in 400 words or less must be sent in, introducing oneself, explaining how deserving they are of the scholarship, and how it will help achieve personal goals. If you think this is perfect for you, then this is a sign that you should definitely send in your application.
Listen, the opportunity doesn’t get any better and yes, fab than this. The chance to learn from the best of the best, with all the room to shape an identity that is truly and completely authentic to you is a once in a lifetime thing. It would be a shame if you let this one slip by. So, get to it. A most fabulous future definitely awaits.
