Everything The New ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ Trailer Suggests About MCU Phase Four

By

We’ve seen Thanos decimate the Avengers in ‘Infinity War’ and Phase Three is about to end April this year with ‘Avengers: Endgame’. Marking the beginning of a new phase, the launch of Spider-Man: Far From Home’s trailer tells us that not everything will be okay on Phase Four. With its release, there are a lot of questions fans have been asking. Its online domination completely set the tone for the next MCU movies to come but also sparked up theories on the future of our favorite heroes. What could the new Spider-Man movie tell us about Phase Four?

“We are all alone”

There has been a lot of speculations going around about the death of either one of (hopefully not both) Tony Stark and Steve Rogers in the upcoming Avengers film, ‘Endgame’. It can be a bit of a stretch but what Happy Hogan tells on the trailer could give us a major clue about the fate of Iron Man on the 4th ‘Avengers’ film. “We are all alone,” he said. Not to mention, Pepper Potts is the signee on the cheque he’s handing over to the Parkers. But that could also just be a supporting detail Potts got promoted as CEO of Stark Industries in ‘Iron Man 2’. Either way, this tells us that Peter’s godfather may not have an appearance on the new Spider-Man movie.

Villain Or Ally?

For comic fans, Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a villain to Spider-Man. He’s a member of the Sinister Six together with Vulture. It can be remembered that Vulture was the villain in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’. But it seems as if things turned around at the post-credits scene of the first MCU Spider-Man movie. Recalling the scene, Vulture subtly defended our friendly neighborhood when he was asked when a former colleague (most probably is Scorpion) asked about his identity. And on the trailer of ‘Far From Home’ Mysterio can be seen helping Spidey defeat Elementals. Is MCU taking a huge step into turning each Sinister Six member to a Spider-Man ally or will they unite later in the attempt to defeat the masked hero?

Happy Hogan x Aunt May

It’s not that hard to believe that anyone would be attracted to MCU’s Aunt May. She’s gorgeous and cool—Marisa Tomei did a great job portraying her own version of everyone’s favorite aunt. So finding Happy Hogan seemingly head over heels for her is just another “oh, that’s cute” moment. Wouldn’t it be cuter if Happy becomes Peter’s new uncle?

MJ Reference

Since her appearance in the first movie, it has been confirmed that this MJ isn’t Mary Jane Watson. Instead, it’s Michelle Jones. The nickname was formed to pay homage to Peter’s love interest in the comics. But with the subtle hints of them forming a relationship in the past only just got confirmed. In the trailer, it seems like we still have an MJ for Spidey. This time though, hopefully, she won’t be a damsel in distress.

Nick’s Fury

“I think Nick Fury just hijacked our summer vacation,” Peter tells as Nick Fury comes to London. What he’s doing there can be one of two things: get Spider-Man to do something that would save all of London and his classmates or simply guide him not to do anything stupid a la Iron Man in the first movie—or it could be both. Whatever it is he did there, as an official member of the super-secret boyband (which he’s already actually a member of, thanks to the outer space blessing by Iron Man in ‘Infinity War’) called Avengers, having Nick Fury around can’t be a bad idea. It seems as if we’ll keep seeing him on the rest of Phase Four.

All of these will remain a theory until Phase Four unfolds before our eyes. With two more movies left until the end of Phase Three, a lot of changes could still happen. We’re still hoping for a Tony Stark in the next phase of MCU and more Avengers movie with Spider-Man in the team. ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ will be in cinemas on July 5, 2019, right after ‘Captain Marvel’ (March 8) and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ (April 26).
