Welcome to Paris Haute Couture Week—the crème de la crème of fashion. And as it’s the industry’s most important event, we are once more treated with a chock-full of jaw-dropping and breathtaking creations. From the ever-beguiling runway transformation of the Grand Palais courtesy of Chanel to the last couture show of Jean Paul Gaultier, these storied Maisons keep on proving that there’s always more room for fashion innovations.

So, before we move forward to New York Fashion Week, let’s close the couture week by highlighting all the best looks that blew our minds—whether it’s because of fabric manipulation, over-the-top voluminous gown, or an ultra sultry body-hugging piece. Here are MEGA’s top picks from Haute Couture Week.

Look 131, Jean Paul Gaultier

Haute Couture Week

“It’s Jean Paul Gaultier’s last show, of course, he’ll make it extravagant. But more than that, it was the perfect opportunity for him to—one last time—prove his moniker as the “enfant terrible” of French couture, showcasing no less than his take on excess, fantasy, and attitude. And this exquisitely stunning white bubble wrap gown worn by supermodel Karlie Kloss was undoubtedly a standout piece that majestically reflected his ingenious craftsmanship.” – Daniel Reyes, Digital Fashion Writer

Look 52, Christian Dior

“Christian Dior has given birth to goddesses enchanting the runway. I was brought back to an era of how Greeks and Romans were timelessly a reference for fashion. The embroidered appliques and gold embellishments in this tulle Dior dress strengthened femininity.” – Alinea Hernandez, Digital Beauty & Features Writer

Look 2, Schiaparelli

“The latest couture offerings of the legendary house of Schiaparelli showed the fine handiwork of artistic director Daniel Roseberry. He expertly wielded the intrinsic fantasy synonymous with the house, fine-tuning the whimsy in masterfully tailored pieces—the strong tailoring becoming a signature of his own. While there are other more standout pieces, this ensemble spoke to me in its juxtaposition—the reality of a classic, strong suit exploding into a fantastical poof of a collar. A literal sartorial dream.” – RJ Roque, Style & Social Media Editor

Look 132, Jean Paul Gaultier

“JPG did not hold back with his finale collection, leaving us with the same provocative energy nostalgic of the 90s. The last memory of the fashion world being this stunned was perhaps John Galliano’s Dior 1991 show and it was long overdue for a couture house to be deemed jolting. It was a beautiful ending filled with show-stopping caskets, cheeky BDSM references, embroidered faux tattoo pieces and his conical bras. Gaultier never took fashion too seriously but honed his craft as any artist would.” – Lyn Alumno, Fashion Associate

Look 41, Givenchy

“At its emotive core, fashion exists to express, to the point of taking one’s breath away–quite literally. If it isn’t an audible gasp or a handheld to the chest, turn around and get back to work, because we are supposed to feel things.

The very second look 42 turned the corner at the Givenchy Haute Couture 2020 show, it was a moment. Immaculate in all white, there spoke an almost audible sense of liberty in the spirited floral lace that manifested in an off-shoulder, bohemian bride ensemble. Exaggerated but elegant, the romantic love letter of Clare Waight Keller to Hubert de Givenchy and Virginia Woolf was a most befitting punctuation to the night’s reverie.” – Angelo Ramirez de Cartagena, Digital Content Editor
