Immerse yourself in the twin bill experience of Duncan Macmillan’s plays before its finale show tomorrow
When life and art look at themselves in the mirror, they will see each other’s reflection and it will not be a surprise. The fact that art imitates life and vice-versa has made itself clear ever since, and it comes in what we read, see, and listen to. And this time around, the blurred lines of fiction and reality take the stage at the Sandbox Fest 2023.

After a three-year hiatus, The Sandbox Collective finds a new beginning with this year’s twin bill exhibition from English playwright Duncan Macmillan. Giving its audience the two-plays-in-one experience, the collective brings Lungs and Every Brilliant Thing back-to-back in one show.
Since the global pandemic, the former material has become more relevant than ever. What started out as a story of questioning what it means to bring more lives into the world, Lungs now tackles an added inquiry: What if we are not only thinking about our fears, but actually living them?
The characters of esteemed actors Sab Jose, Reb Atadero, Brian Sy, and Justine Peña will attempt to answer this question, along with Gawad Buhay Awardee Caisa Borromeo as the show director.
Still revolving around its theme around anatomy, Sandbox Fest also features Lungs, a story of a child who grows up dealing with a mentally ill parent. The theatrical staging of the show highlights the importance of mental health discussion in homes where children are primarily learning and practicing the ins and outs of life.
The one-actor show alternately stars award-winning figures Teresa Herrera, Kakki Teodoro, and returning theater actor Jon Santos. Jenny Jamora keeps the directorial post for this stage, just like the play’s runs in the past.
Sandbox Fest 2023 will run until July 15, 2023 at the Zobel de Ayala Recital Hall, 2/F Maybank Performing Arts Theater, 9th Avenue cor. 26th Street, BGC, Taguig City. For more information, visit The Sandbox Collective on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
