The boys of Perea Street turn the unboxing video on its head to give us a refreshing and addicting show on IGTV!
Perea Street in Makati is a hotbed for creativity with multiple design studios and media agencies occupying the different buildings along the verdant road.
While many leave for home or the nearby malls after work hours, a trio of streetwear-loving guys (named after the street) takes to their office balcony or rooftop to shoot weekly unboxing videos in the company of hilarious commentary and made-up songs.
The first Perea Street episode was released on Instagram TV (@pereastreet) last July. Since then, the account with just over forty posts and nine videos has gained a cult following of over five thousand.
What’s more remarkable is how this is increasing by word of mouth and rabid Instagram stories (and re-storying). There’s not a dull moment on their account, even in the wee hours. It’s a social media content game we can all learn from.
The “pogi” group, composed of Julo de Guzman, Judd Figuerres, and Edsel Uy, has already been invited for a sneak peek at the Nike Manila HQ and as hosts of the pre-party for Chance the Rapper’s recent concert. Big brands are noticing and it’s only a matter of time they get to hear from their ultimate idol, who they have already made a song for—the Virgil Abloh, Off-White founder and the mastermind behind Louis Vuitton’s current streetwear aesthetic.
The boys shared with MEGAStyle: “Perea Street started when the three of us decided to purchase some hoodies and caps online from Awake NY. When we received it, we decided to film our unboxing.”
“We didn’t really have any plans at first. Eventually, we decided to make an Instagram account and post it on IGTV. It was still very new then (until now actually). Initially, we thought only our close friends would enjoy them. We didn’t expect the feedback, and we’re still quite overwhelmed with where it is now.”
“Our ultimate goal for PereaStreet? We just want to continue being ourselves and having fun,” they added.
So if you hear your friends and family “mowdeling” their shoes while bursting into melodies accompanied by “It’s so chunkyyy…,” that’s the Perea Street effect. They are also to blame for the coolest folks in your office shedding all inhibition to serenade and dance with fanny packs. Below we present to you some of Perea Street’s greatest hits (with lyrics) and suggestions on when you can sing them. Remember: you can repeat the verses as much as you see fit and you can sing them whenever you want!
