Bringing back fashion to the heart of Makati, a runway show took over the ever-elegant lobby of the Makati Shangri-La Hotel.
Ever since the 90s, the Makati Shangri-La Hotel has pioneered fashion shows in Manila. That’s why in order to cap-off women’s month en vogue just like the old days, the hotel opted to put up the Tapestry Fashion Show. It highlighted a collection that epitomized the true greatness of women and Philippine fashion combined.
The show started with a tableau of models donning nude pastel ensembles with a hint of gold sparkles. And when a piece of classical music began accompanied by a modern upbeat song, the models strut the lobby-turned-catwalk and effortlessly dominated it.
Following the elegant nude palette, several striking plaid numbers instantly caught our attention. Colorful heritage prints were evident in hoodies, ponchos, skirts, oversized tops, and trousers. But more than that, what really astonished everyone was how local weaves and patterns were incorporated in the collection.
It featured the Panay hablon and patadyong, habi of Camarines Sur, and backstrap looms textiles from the Bagobo Tagabawa and Maranoa peoples. The show simply proved that once traditional handwoven textiles are infused to contemporary print and styles, it can surpass the beauty of today’s fashion.
Come to think of it, the resplendence of fusing old world glamor with modern elegance will always be timeless. Not only will it easily elevate your look but you’ll also showcase the true artistry of the Filipino heritage.
