Beyoncé kicked off her world tour with a roster of designer looks and we’re here to break them down for you
The Renaissance Tour finally commenced as Beyoncé held the first show in Stockholm last Wednesday, and needless to say, the singer exceeded all expectations. Though it just started, it’s safe to say that her stage has become one of the most anticipated concerts since it has been seven since her last world tour.
We got to see her perform on stage once again and her outfits are probably the most talked about topics in social media. Beyoncé is set to travel to fifty-seven countries so we can’t really say that the looks we saw are final, but we were able to break down the outfits she wore for her opening night.
Back in 2009
The singer is known for leaving bits and pieces of reference she did back in the day so it’s no surprise that she opened it with a nostalgic look. The custom Alexander McQueen catsuit featured various panels, exaggerated proportions, and silver beadings that decorated the entire piece. The reference? It’s actually reminiscent of the Thierry Mugler pieces she wore back in 2009 for her I Am Tour. Beyoncé performed songs such as Dangerously In Love 2 and Flaws and All for the opening act.
A disco type of beat
She’s already known for her versatility in genres which is why she tapped into each distinct style to curate looks that match the vibe. For her second act which includes both pop and R&B, she wore two outfits that paid homage to retro fashion. Her first look was a silver sequined bodysuit that had a cut by the shoulder and circle detailing right at the torso from Courrèges. She completed the look by wearing link earrings from the Tiffany Hardware collection.
Meanwhile, her second look was definitely a nod to the disco era. It’s a loving tribute to her late Uncle Jonny, her godmother who was part of the LGBTQ community and introduced the singer to the culture and music she has grown to love. So in true 70s fashion, the psychedelic piece designed by David Koma consisted of a multicolored dress that folds across the skirt, an oversized coat finished in a holographic material, and snakeskin knee-high boots. Beyonce did not hold back with this look as she topped it off with a pair of striking drop diamond earrings.
Nod to hyper femininity
However, the looks for her fifth act was undoubtedly the talk of the town. Her first look was a daring body-hugging custom piece by Loewe. The bodysuit matched Beyoncé’s skin tone to highlight strategically placed black glove details in different parts of the piece. A playful detail in this look was the red polished nails on the piece that the singer matched with her black opera gloves that the red polish.
Harnessing modern technology
Her second look for her fifth act also created a buzz globally—the performer sported Anrealge, the label that showcased the UV changing piece back in Paris Fashion Week. Before the magic happened, the singer appeared on stage in a full-length white robe and headpiece. Once the UV light swept through the piece, various colors became visible across the robe that are reminiscent of stained glass patterns.
The last act
To close the night, Beyoncé channeled her inner camp fashion by wearing a silver piece made by Coperni. The look consisted of a bodysuit and cape that had silver feathered appliques which mimicked the dress from the label’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection. And just like her custom Alexander McQueen look, her final look was a reference to her Renaissance album cover that featured a silver horse who also made an appearance at the closing act.
