From Bretman Rock wearing the same dress Aaliyah wore to the 2000s VMAs to Megan Fox’s head turning sheer dress, here are the most eye-catching fashion moments and best looks from the 2021 MTV VMAs.
Unlike the Oscars or Grammys, the MTV VMAs are a chance for stars to show their fun and unique sense of style—and this year did not disappoint. Held on September 12 at the Barclays Center, the red carpet was full of chic fashion moments that made our heads turn.
Here are the 6 looks from the 2021 MTV VMAs that we loved:
Bretman Rock
The beloved Filipino influencer Bretman Rock paid tribute to Aaliyah by wearing the same dress the late singer wore to the 2000 VMAs, 21 years later. The black and yellow animal printed and feather lined frock is by Roberto Cavalli. Matched with a pair of black thigh high boots and a stylish mullet, Bretman Rock truly rocked the red carpet.
Olivia Rodrigo
Attending her first VMAs, the rising pop star looked like a prom queen. Easing away from her usual Y2K and pop punk style, Olivia Rodrigo opted for an Atelier Versace orange and pink gown from the fashion house’s spring/summer 2001 collection. She completed her look with a pair of dangling butterfly earrings and pink heels.
Normani
While other stars opted for well-known designers and brands, Normani did just the opposite. The “Motivation” singer wore a deconstructed suit ensemble—cropped, collared leather jacket with oversized cuffs, and a wrapped mini skirt with a long strap—by up-and-coming designer Patrycja Pagas. Looking like a real lady boss, she completed her look with a pair of white pointy heels and high ponytail.
Dixie Damelio
The TikTok star has opted for a more daring look for the 2021 VMAs. Wearing a black cut-out, backless silk dress from Aliétte, Dixie Damelio was an absolute stunner during the awards night. With her dress’ high slit, she showed off her legs and gorgeous Giuseppe Zanotti pair.
Camila Cabello
Our real-life Cinderella, Camila Cabello looked like a princess in her pink and red Alexis Mabille gown. Designed with an oversized bow at the waist, she completed her red carpet look with a sleek ponytail and pink eyeshadow that truly caught our attention.
Kacey Musgraves
The country singer brought all the feathers! Kacey Musgraves arrived in a Haute Couture purple draped mini dress from Valentino’s Fall 2021 collection, which she matched with a pair of red leather gloves. Her piece de resistance? The purple ostrich feather hat by Philip Treacy for Valentino, that stole the show.
Megan Fox
When talking about sultry characters, Megan Fox definitely takes the lead. Clad in a fitted sheer dress by Mugler, the actress definitely made heads turn. She completed her look with some sparkly lingerie, a pair of open toe heels, and her black hair in a wet look.
