History repeats itself and also changes its course as Heart Evangelista and Chiz Escudeo renew their wedding vows
The common misconception with vows is that its weight remains the same all throughout the relationship. There are days, however, that their gravity changes. Because what if in friendship or in marriage, one or both people change? What if circumstances in life change? And when people are determined to work on what they have, they last. What do they do? Remind themselves of their promises of love and commitment. So, nine years after they first said their “I do’s,” Heart Evangelista and Chiz Escudero renewed their wedding vows. Making the occasion a double celebration, the country’s fashion maven also turned 39 on Valentine’s Day at Balesin Island.

From then till now, change is inevitable even while things stay the same. That goes the same for the relationship of Chiz and Heart. With that, here’s a breakdown of what remained and what changed since their first wedding till their renewal of vows.
The presence of motherly love
This time around, Cecilia Ongpauco, Heart’s mother, finally witnessed her daughter’s special day as a bride. After the marriage of the couple, the parents of the actress eventually showed their intent to form a renewed bond with their daughter, as well as with Chiz. Later on, they eventually welcomed Chia wholeheartedly in the family. “Nine years too late, but [I] made it,” the Ongpauco matriarch mentioned.
“I told you, if you do everything right and you pray a lot, time heals everything,” Heart once said in a vlog. In another video, Heart’s mother also commented on her daughter’s marriage to the senator. “What I like about your marriage is you allow each other to grow.”
The wedding ensembles
Fashion Week’s Filipino representative reflected her growth in the industry with her choice of bridal ensembles. In 2015, she wore a white, lace gown from Filipino designer Ezra Santos. This time around, Evangelista donned a custom beige, crystal-crusted couture number from Ellie Saab. For her second look, she wore a beaded, deep neckline Michael Leyva creation.
The bonds of friendship
From a star-studded affair in 2015, the couple made their second “I do’s” more intimate at Balesin. Reserving more of their guests for their Manila reception, the best of the best friends, family members, and sponsors were present at their actual wedding renewal. This included makeup artist Albert Kurniawan, and then assistant and now stylist Iza Sim. Indeed, Heart is growing as her friends around her are, too.
