In an exclusive interview with MEGA, Jewelmer shared the inspiration behind the Miss Universe Philippines crown

A crown has been placed upon the newly reigned Miss Universe Philippines, Michelle Dee, and she now takes up the challenge to follow the footsteps of her predecessors in her unique approach to claiming the coveted Miss Universe crown. And while a woman embraces all things that make up a queen, a crown holds more than the gemstones and diamonds as it represents what it means to be the woman of this country.

Designed to pay homage to our land, the Miss Universe Philippines crown is a symbol of the beauty this country holds, and we get to unfold this through an exclusive interview with Jewelmer, the name behind the crown.

Pearls, the national gem of this country, were used to decorate the crown. It was inspired by Jewelmer’s La Mer en Majesté collection, which translates to “majesty” in French. It’s fitting to see them adorned on the crown, which was structured to mimic the movement of the tides, while the colors are reminiscent of the rays of the sun, as seen on the golden South Sea pearls.

The process behind the creation was far from easy as it took several years to complete. The wave-like structures across the crown holds the diamonds, but the true gems are the 17 golden South Sea pearls finished in various sizes and shapes—all of which were crafted by skilled Filipino craftsmen.

And since it is a one-of-a-kind and priceless piece, the preservation is quite tedious. Steps such as avoiding contact with perfume and chemicals, as well as storing pearls in a cool environment with sufficient air moisture are continuously done to ensure the brilliance and golden luster remains.

This particular pearl is distinct to the Philippines ever since it was named as the Philippines’ National Gem because of its rarity. It’s the perfect symbol of beauty and homage because it honors the beauty of our archipelago and the people who have been working behind the conservation of the sea.
