This is a concept legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath knows and demonstrates magically. Her work and mastery inspired makeup artist Angeline dela Cruz to create these artful images that transcend beyond maquillage.

PORCELAIN DOLL

An artist in every sense, Mcgrath’s work continues to introduce a new way to play with color, incorporate details, and tailor a sense of theatricality in beauty that sets any look apart from the contemporaries

McGrath’s mind-bending creativity recently reached virality. In the Maison Margiela Spring/Summer 2024 show, models were transformed into living porcelain dolls as McGrath’s team created an otherworldly combination of hyperreal, futuristic-looking glaze skin, a painterly wash of color on the eyes, and a touch of doll-like blusher.

MODERN CABARET

Crafting makeup looks reminiscent of the cabaret days, McGrath is known for reintroducing beauty theatrics in the runway

An artful ode to McGrath’s work for the John Galliano Spring/Summer 2011 show, Dela Cruz echoes a similar kind of a dark cabaret look with pencil-thin eyebrows, moody eyes, and gradient doll lips.

VIRAL SKIN

On creating the viral porcelain skin effect, Dela Cruz shared her runway-approved hack: water-based gel mask. The makeup artist patiently brushed the formula onto the model’s skin in layers, drying each layer with a blow dryer before applying the next.
