Taking on his own character at the GMA Sparkle Spell 2023 black carpet, Alden Richards arrived at the event as his Five Breakups and a Romance role
Last night, Alden Richards proved that the last is definitely not least at the GMA Sparkle Spell 2023. As he closed off the black carpet, the actor-host surprised his fans with his costume this year. Instead of going for the fantasy route, which he did in the previous year, he chose a simple yet thoughtful take on his look. He graced the event as Lance Sandoval, his role from Five Breakups And a Romance.

Donning a casual outfit, he opted to draw the attention to his Godzilla-printed shirt. The actor explained, “Parang hindi kasi narereveal kung bakit [ito] ‘yung logo sa t-shirt ni Lance. So, ngayon ko siya irereveal. Alam natin na si Godzilla ay wrecker of cities, ‘di ba? Lagi siyang ganu’n. The destroyer.”
“Kaya suot ni Lance ‘yun, ang analogy is parang siya ‘yung sisira sa buhay ni Justine. Pero siya nga ba? And ano pa bang mas malaking horror kun’di masira ang ating buhay? This is a deep costume, pero simpleng-simple,” he followed up. In one of the movie stills, it could be seen that the character wore the said shirt in one of their scenes shot in Singapore.
Describing his character as a gambler, Richards shared to MEGA Entertainment that Lance’s journey is about maturity. “As the movie [progresses], doon niya marerealize na minsan, kapag may big decisions ta’s hindi pinag-iisipan ng one hundred thousand, million times, medyo masakit siya kapag reality hits you,” he said in an exclusive interview.
Making his big screen return with Five Breakups And a Romance, Alden’s production company, Myriad Entertainment, also co-produced the film along with Cornerstone Entertainment and GMA Pictures.
