A look back on last night’s coronation and the various outfit changes of Catriona Gray, Nicole Cordoves, and MJ Lastimosa
Just last night, new queens were given the crown as former titleholders went on stage to present each segment with such charm and grace. We have seen them in action during their respective competitions and as they continued on with their reign. Now, they have gathered on stage for this year’s Binibining Pilipinas in their exquisite roster of gowns once again, and we are here to break down their looks for you.
The first looks
Placed at the center of the line, Catriona’s red dress featured various cutouts around the bust, shoulder, and by the side of her waist, while a corset-like finish was used for the torso. To add texture to the look, tight drapes were done across the bodice down to her hips, a fitting sleeve was added, as well as a matching choker for the finishing touch.
Meanwhile, Nicole opted to wear something more sultry. Her top featured thin straps that held up the bralette and was connected to the fitted silhouette. From there, the tight finish ended just by her knees and was flared out to create a mermaid figure. She then completed the look by wearing red gloves—a nice trendy detail to her overall appearance.
MJ decided to wear a neon pink dress that hugged her body well. The material used for this was latex, giving a nice shine to her look underneath the spotlight. Cutouts were seen on the side of the dress, thin straps held up the halter neckline, and opera gloves were also added to her ensemble.
The second look
Nicole had a quick change of outfit, which reminded of the recent fashion trend called Shipwreck Chic. It’s definitely quite the look to break down since she spotted a white one-piece that had a cutout at the center of the bodice and a high-rise bikini cut. It was then layered with a figure-hugging sheer embellished dress that had a one-shoulder detail and asymmetrical cut on the skirt.
MJ joined in on the outfit change with Nicole when she walked out wearing a dainty pink fit. It was definitely a sweet look compared to Nicole’s because of the classic silhouette, sweetheart neckline, embellishments, and the pink feathered high slit.
Catriona went solo when she opened the evening gown segment wearing her own rendition. It was definitely a charming switch in contrast to her first look since her gown had a combination of pastel purple and nude colors. The corset was finished with a nude fabric and purple embellishments in between the boning. Meanwhile, the satin skirt had an elegant drape on the side of her waist that accentuated her hourglass figure.
The third look of MJ and Nicole
Nicole had quite the roster of ensembles as she made her third outfit change wearing another trending aesthetic—Mermaidcore. Though it’s not a custom piece, this pink and purple-hued look has been making waves in the local fashion scene because of its unique print and intricate pleats that cascade down the dress.
It was definitely a clash of trends when MJ appeared on stage wearing a green ensemble. The dress featured intricate patterns on the bodice decorated with matching sequins. It had a sultry touch to it because of the sheer finish and the halter neckline adorned with embellishments. And like her first look, she finished it off by adding black opera gloves.
The last look
To cap off the night, the hosts went for neon shades that undoubtedly caught the attention of many. Catriona went for a neon green dress that had an asymmetrical finish on the sequined plunging neckline, green feathers placed at the center of her waist, and beads by bodice that slowly dispersed by the hips.
On the other hand, Nicole wore a pink gown done in a classic silhouette. The neckline had a bit of a plunge, sleek panels were seen on the bodice down to the skirt, and pink rosettes in various sizes were topped off with dainty black feathers.
You’ve probably seen the shroud design last year since it was a favorite amongst celebrities. Last night, MJ joined in the trend with her final look. The deep blue fitted dress had a criss cross pattern on the bodice, which connected to the shroud she had on her head.
