Another fashion fad from the Y2K era is back—the ballet flats. Here’s how you can style them the modern way as seen on Kelsey Merritt
Our favorite childhood fashion pieces are coming back, including the pair that we’ve all worn out: the ballet flats. Whether you hated them or you loved them, we’ve all got a line of ballet flats that were poorly styled back then. But now, it’s back and may be for the better. It has a new look with its square toe, thick quality leather finish, and the bow-strap detail. It exudes a timeless vibe that a lot of fashion enthusiasts are trying to recreate. And if you’re one of those, here’s how you can style the ballet flats, the modern way.

T-shirt and jeans
This style combination is a classic and it’s a full-proof look that works with anything. Just be mindful of the tiny details, from doing the French tuck to not wearing skinny jeans and tight shirts. Elevate it by wearing simple golds for some shimmer.
Button-down and mini skirt
If you want to live out your Upper East Side life, then this look is worth recreating. If you want an edgy feel, wear an oversized button-down shirt and leave it untucked. Then, let your mini skirt peep underneath. For a clean look, tuck the shirt in and layer it with a blazer for a put-together finish.
Knitted sweater and trousers
A comfy yet chic ensemble you can wear on a rainy day is the knitted sweater and trousers combo. To pull off this look, make sure that you have the fit-and-flared silhouette in mind. Grab your baggy sweater and expertly pair it with some trousers that are either in the same color range or in their complementary colors.
Cardigan and jeans
If your cardigan is collecting dust in your closet, then it’s time to try this laid-back ensemble. It’s another take on the white shirt and jeans combination, but wearing a cardigan exudes a dainty and cottagecore aesthetic.
Blazers
When it comes to lazy dressing, blazers are our best friends because they can easily elevate a look. Whether your ensemble is finished in with a pair of trousers or a maxi skirt, they can be styled with your go-to ballet flats if you want a clean and chic outfit.
