Fashion’s finest celebrities pulled all the stops at the Metropolitan Museum for the first Monday in May.
As the theme of the Met Gala 2019 is “Camp: Notes on Fashion,” it is only expected that all guests would arrive in an extraordinarily extravagant ensemble. After all, it is the biggest night for all stars and fashion icons to be seen all together.
One style savant after another, everyone came out to play in the pink carpet. From donning a peculiarly beautiful feathered creation to a major four outfit changes on the Met steps, these celebrities prove that fashion knows no boundaries. So now, we only bring you the best-dressed women at the Met Gala 2019.
10. Zendaya
Familiar? Well, that’s because Zendaya arrived as Cinderella. And if you think this Tommy Hilfiger dress might be ordinary, it’s not. Because when she finally struck a pose on the pink carpet, her A-line dress became a ball gown and it literally lit up.
9. Lupita Nyong’o
Lupita Nyong’o looked entirely regal with a contemporary sensibility. She has impeccably reimagined Marie Antoinette in the modern age wearing a frothy rainbow Versace gown.
8. Florence Welch
Painting the medieval age with colors, Florence Welch arrived in an exquisite custom Gucci. The 32-year-old singer-songwriter looked ethereal in a dégradé cape featuring three-dimensional wings embellished with crystals, pearls, and sequins.
7. Saoirse Ronan
Seems like there’s another dragon queen in town as Saoirse Ronan easily stunned the crowd as she emerged on the pink carpet. She wore a fiery red sequined Gucci dress accentuated by gold embroidered dragons.
6. Gigi Hadid
Giving us no less than the raw beauty of the glaciers, Gigi Hadid magnificently channeled the ice queen. The supermodel walked the pink carpet in a white, silver, and gold Michael Kors catsuit with feather embellishments. She finished her look by adding crystal hoops and elongated silver eyelashes.
5. Katy Perry
Famed for making a show-stopping entrance at the Met Gala, Katy Perry was dressed as a stunning giant chandelier. The star effortlessly illuminate wearing a bejeweled silver dress encased in a decorative candles and draped crystals by Moschino.
4. Cardi B
If there’s really one who knows drama, it’s Cardi B. The moment she appeared on the Met steps, everyone just swooned over her tulle and silk organza gown by Thom Browne. And here’s a fact, her gown boasted a 10-foot-long train that needed five men to carry it.
3. Janelle Monae
What I love about fashion is it is a walking piece of art. And Janelle Monae perfectly epitomizes it as she wore a Pablo Picasso-inspired dress by Christian Siriano. Her pièce de rèsistance? The animatronic eye on her left breast that blinked its lashes randomly.
2. Celine Dion
Celine Dion is one of the few celebrities who has truly aged gracefully. The 51-year-old singer shone amongst the sea of gorgeous celebrities by wearing a sparkly fringed leotard by Oscar de la Renta. She completed her look with a towering feathered headpiece.
1. Lady Gaga
Talk about being extra! Finally, the queen of all queens for this year’s Met Gala is none other than Lady Gaga. The singer-songwriter surely knows how to put on a show: four different outfits on the Met steps—all of which was designed by Brandon Maxwell.
First, she arrived in a pink taffeta ballgown highlighted by an oversized bow. For her second look, she channeled Mary Poppins in an elegant all-black number. After it, she turned into a blonde pop star in a form-fitting dress. And for her finale, she defined the true meaning of daring in a sparkly two-piece ensemble. Seems like Gaga has already perfected the art of being “Gaga.”
