These are the Stars We’re Expecting to See at the 2023 Met Gala

The Met Gala is a roster reunion to others and a fashion initiation to some. From Taylor Swift to BLACKPINK’s Jennie, here are the faces who might just grace the occasion

The first Monday of May turns everyone’s heads to New York City for the annual Met Gala. While its fundraising agenda remains true to this day, it has also served as the determiner of one’s relevance to a number of industries and in society. Ultimately, it is also an avenue to bring together fashion’s finest and prime personalities for a night of fun and funding.

For this year, the Met has chosen to honor the late German designer, Karl Lagerfeld, drawing his own line of beauty. And as the event celebrates Lagerfeld’s six decades worth of sartorial brilliance, here are the individuals who we hope to see clad in the silhouettes Lagerfeld has owned in his career:

The Lagerfeld Muses

It is no secret that Karl Lagerfeld has played runway favorites from supermodels of the 90s to this generation’s modern muses. Naomi Campbell and Devon Aoki have witnessed the evolution of Chanel in the past decades. The latter walked numerous Chanel shows as the remarkable “Chanel Bride” who wraps up the collection. While Gigi Hadid has always been serving looks in her past Met Gala ensembles, this year will surely carry a special sentimentality to her. The Guest in Residence founder did not just walk for Lagerfeld’s shows, but also became her muse in front of his camera lens. Our fingers are also crossed for Lagerfeld’s renowned muses—Claudia Schiffer, Linda Evangelista, and Inès de la Fressange.

The Met Co-Chairs

Along with Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, co-chairs Penélope Cruz, Roger Federer, Michaela Coel, and Dua Lipa have put their brains together to stage this year’s Met Gala. Among the four co-chairs, Cruz has had the most interaction with the late designer. In 2018, she was chosen as the house ambassador of Chanel and even walked for Lagerfeld’s last show in 2019.

The Personalities

For the first time in Met history, American sweetheart socialite Paris Hilton is said to finally attend the annual event. Walking for Chanel and donning its vintage pieces from time to time, top model Bella Hadid will surely not miss this momentous occasion. Will Chanel ambassador Lily-Rose Depp don another archival piece this year, just like her 2019 Met look from 1992? Finally, this guest question begs to be asked—who among the Kardashian-Jenner clan will attend this year?

Another star expected to be in attendance is Song Hye Kyo who once worked with Lagerfeld in 2012 with his The Little Black Jacket campaign. In 2011, the actress also attended Chanel’s fashion show. Given her history with the designer and fashion house, it is no surprise if Song Hye Kyo will be making an appearance.

The Hollywood Stars

Leading the roster of Hollywood names is Kristen Stewart who also plays the role of Chanel’s house ambassador. Rumor has it that Zendaya, whose influence is also reaching fashion, will be making her Met comeback this year, too. Other celebrities that we can’t wait to see on the red carpet are the following: Margot Robbie, Sydney Sweeney, Lupita Nyong’o, Gemma Chan, Michelle Yeoh, Emma Stone, and Jenna Ortega.

The Music Figures

Starting off with K-Pop, Rosé from BLACKPINK will possibly walk the red carpet for the second time since last year. With Chanel as the one of the forefront maisons this year, Jennie is said to grace the Met, too. Another possible guest for the evening is Jimin from BTS. His presence at Tiffany & Co.’s flagship store fueled the fan speculations of his Met attendance as well.

The presence of Queen Beyoncé at the Met is highly happening, too. Balmain Creative Director Olivier Rousteing is currently in New York just in time for the occasion. A month ago, the House announced its collaboration with the performer—the BALMAIN x BEYONCÉ collection—and what better way to debut the collection’s first pieces than in one of fashion’s biggest events?

Rihanna has also established fashion’s presence in her life at this point, including her Met Gala appearance. It seems like she RSVP-ed yes to tomorrow’s occasion with her Cruella in Chanel outfit last night in New York.

Word on the street is that Taylor Swift is making rounds in the Big Apple recently. If she is going to the Met, that is no surprise. This will be her event comeback since 2016 after debuting a darker persona post-1989 with her messy bleached bob.

Other musicians that we can’t wait to see at the Met are Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Chloe and Halle Bailey, Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber, Billie Eillish, Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo, SZA, and Katy Perry.
