These are the types of exercises the Miss Universe Philippines 2023 candidates use to stay fit, active, and in shape leading up to the much-awaited coronation night
Getting into the shape that befits a Miss Universe Philippines candidate takes hard work—and the current roster of candidates doesn’t shy away from giving out glimpses of their efforts. With that, we listed the workouts and sports we’ve seen a number of aspiring beauty queens do in the past year and grouped them into two: aerobic and anaerobic.
Both aerobic and anaerobic exercises are good for your health, but they differ in some ways, like how the body produces and stores energy. Anaerobic exercises are also shorter in length, but higher in intensity compared to aerobic exercises.

Aerobic exercises
Examples of aerobic exercises include stair climbing, running, and rowing, which we’ve seen the candidates showcase on their respective social media accounts. Their recent caving expedition at the Sohoton Caves is also considered an aerobic exercise as it’s a form of cardio.

A round of mixed martial arts training is also considered an aerobic exercise because of the stamina and endurance it takes. With how effective it is, we can even tell that the Northern Samar representative is a fan of the sport.
Anaerobic exercises
On the other hand, examples of anaerobic exercises include squats, squat jumps, push-ups, and weight lifting. HIIT, or high-intensity interval training, is also a prime example of anaerobic exercise due to the short but intense bursts of energy used to perform them. Plenty of the candidates use these workouts to tone their muscles in preparation for Miss Universe Philippines.
Added to this list of examples is freediving. While swimming is considered aerobic, freediving is a form of an anaerobic exercise because of the way your body stores energy in the absence of oxygen. The short burst of time you go without breathing means that your body is using oxygen faster than it’s being replenished.
