This T-Shirt Collection Celebrates Frida Kahlo’s Best Paintings

By

Artsy girls, rejoice! High street brand Stradivarius celebrates Frida Kahlo by  launching a capsule collection paying homage to the iconic Mexican artist on her 110th birthday.

Frida Kahlo is known for her self-portraits and paintings that evoke themes of identity, post-colonialism, gender, class and race, mostly inspired by nature and her country’s popular culture. Stradivarius celebrates the prominent artist, a woman who turned her pain into paintings, by releasing three unique t-shirt designs. Below, we list down some of Frida’s paintings that possibly inspired their latest collection.

1. “SELF-PORTRAIT,” 1940

Self-portraits became Frida’s trademark, with various paintings depicting her in surreal situations that convey subliminal messages. Stradivarius reinterprets her love for self-portraits and nature in the form of a statement shirt and floral-printed coordinates.

2. “VIVA LA VIDA,” 1954

“Viva La Vida” which translates to “Live Life” is one of the recurring themes in the Mexican painter’s art. Even after her spine injury and turmoils from her personal life, Frida chose to see the brighter side of things. This was her last painting, finished eight days before her death.

3. “YO Y MIS PERICOS,” 1945

Even Frida loves a crisp white shirt. Here she is pictured with her parrots when she settled into a calmer routine in the countryside. During this period, Frida began to include her pets in some of her paintings.
