Maria Cristina, or MC, is a drag mentor and a bright spark in the community
As stated by Maria Cristina, their drag comes from a deep, personal experience. They are known to be one of the powerhouses of the legendary O-bar. Aside from their excellent Whitney Houston acts, MC is cherished for their propensity to move their audience through thought-provoking and heartwarming performances. There’s always intent and a story. “Always about the human experience,” they reinforce.
They have been a theater arts teacher in Colegio de San Juan de Letran for five years. Their innate desire to share wisdom and impart lessons led them to these paths and acquired the power to change perceptions.
Like most creatives, MC’s colors were wiped out by the pandemic, but they found their crayons through Drag Academy PH. It was a summer arts program spearheaded by Spaces MNL with courses like the fundamentals of drag, performance, and SOGIE. Proof that you will always hear your calling no matter how hard things can become when you listen hard and steadfastly.
Admittedly they say that Lygie (their name) is the wild one, and their persona is the strong one. Sometimes when you do drag long enough, you take the best traits from both your “lives” and form a better version of yourself overall. On and off the stage, Maria Cristina radiates an exhilaration that draws people in. They are a firecracker, and we can’t get enough of them!
Drag Den premieres on December 8, 2022 via Prime Video.
