Tod’s Releases A Collaborative Capsule With Designer Alber Elbaz

You can now cherish every happy memory—whether big or small—as TOD’s enlists Israeli Designer Alber Elbaz for a capsule collection.

Following the successful launch of Tod’s series of projects called the “T Factory” with designer Alessandro Dell’Acqua, the luxury Italian label continues the momentum with Alber Elbaz. New to the storied fashion house, he created a collection drawing inspiration from the iconic and beloved Tod’s driving shoe, which impeccably captured and transformed its true spirit for the next generation.

Dubbed as the Tod’s Happy Moments, it wonderfully illustrates the happiness that it brings at different times of the day or at different moments of one’s life. So, whether it’s being on time on your first job interview, dancing down the street while listening to music, wearing matching his and hers on your wedding day, or receiving a pair on your birthday, this capsule is dedicated to everyone.

According to Alber, his initial intuition was simply to make people happy in different moments of their lives, or just different times of the day. He just truly valued the importance to capture these things like happy to be in love, a big happy family, or simply being free.

“We all need a bit of happiness in our lives—today more than ever. But can we be happy all the time? I’m afraid happiness doesn’t always come in big packages, but sometimes, [it comes] in small drips‐and‐drops,” he explained. “When happy moments do come, no matter how small they are, we need to embrace them, cherish them and remember them. That’s a happy moment for me.”

But how did this come about? Well, Alber explained it was just during his usual dinners in Paris with a few notable people in the fashion industry. “I was introduced to Diego [Della Valle] a few years ago by our dear friends, Franca Sozzani and Anna Wintour. We’ve kept in touch over the years and had many dinners together in Paris as we both love food and fashion. It was during one of these dinners that Diego invited me to work on a capsule collection for Tod’s, and I said I do,” he shared.

With all honesty, that “I do” was one of the greatest collabs that happened for both of the designers. Together, they were able to elevate the brand to the next level as they tried to reinvent it. “Italians do not give up on new challenges.  Diego was completely open to everything, and so were the Tod’s artisans at the factory,” Alber said. “[And] as a designer, ‘Come no?’ (which means ‘Why not?’) is music to my ears! We have to experiment with new ideas to go forward.”

Tod’s Happy Moments capsule collection is now available worldwide. Tod’s is exclusively distributed by Stores Specialists, Inc., and is located at Greenbelt 4, Rustan’s Shangri-La, and Shangri-La Plaza.
