Whether you’re a professional athlete or simply an active fitness enthusiast, Under Armour engineers a first-of-its-kind performance mask to equip you in the new norm.
In the previous months, millions of people have stopped working out in and out of countless gym facilities, which were shut down indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic and its unclear ruling of how the virus is transmitted. Although this may be, a lot of the world has since upped their workout from home situations, where slowly and surely, there is a gradual going back to our daily routine—from our morning jogs to our after-office workouts.
Now, this doesn’t mean that we should stop using the so-called new essentials, because we must always keep in mind that we are now living in the new norm. But there still lies a question many active people ask: should we wear a mask while training in public if it’s hard to breathe in it properly?
Here’s a simple answer: Yes. In fact, according to Dr Daniel Durand, Chief Innovation Officer for LifeBridge (an American Healthcare Corporation Healthcare), wearing of face masks is like a team sport, because it requires the participation of each team member to be successful.
“When it comes to physical activity, you breathe more, and the more you breathe, the more virus you will project if you have it, so it’s very important for those exercising to wear a mask where social distancing is difficult to maintain,” Durand explains.
With this in mind, Under Armour found a way to produce the perfect sportsmask for athletes and gym-goers as they return back to training.
The New Kind
The UA Sportsmask was born back in March soon after the sports company began manufacturing face masks to support the needs of personal protective equipment (PPE) within health care and community organizations to help fight the spread of COVID-19. “[But] as soon as we finalized the design of our face mask for PPE, we dove straight into the innovation process of optimizing a mask for performance,” Under Armour’s VP of Materials Innovation Kyle Blakely recounts. “We knew our athletes would need us to come through quickly with a solution to aid their return to training.”
The UA Sportsmask is a reusable, water-resistant performance face mask designed to optimize breathing and maximum comfort. This first-of-its-kind mask functions to reduce the spread of respiratory droplets by the wearer. Not only that, but they also made sure to keep in mind the people who wear glasses. The top of the mask features a moldable nose-bridge to help secure it in place and mitigate airflow to the eyes, helping to prevent glasses from fogging.
It can also be washed and dried, making it more eco-friendly than many single-use, disposable options. For Under Armour, this is their innovative solution for people who want to train and exercise for health and wellness—whether you’re a serious athlete or a casual fitness enthusiast.
This new kind of mask is available for about USD30 at UA.com. Stretchy ear loops and side panels offer a more comfortable and custom-like fit across four size offerings: SM/MD, MD/LG, LG/XL, XL/XXL. Additional colors of the mask will release this summer and fall.
But the best thing about this is Under Armour Philippines confirms that the in-demand mask will be available soon after selling tens of thousands in the US, UK, and Singapore.
